Baby Weight nearly 3 years on...

Do you have any tips regarding stubborn fat after birth? Before I had my son 2 years and 8 months ago I weight 8 stone 5 as a constant and my BMI was 24. I'd run two London marathons in back to back years, under 4.5 hours, and felt brilliant.

When I had Harrison I gained about 3 and a half stone and only lost one. I didn't change my diet and yet I'm now holding on to this weight. Admittedly I did stop exercising for a year and a half due to pregnancy and then sleep deprivation. But I simply don't understand why I still look 4/5 months pregnant!

Are there any tips/any way you can help please?

    Eat less, move more.

    If you didn't change your diet but stopped exercising, you were eating too much for your activity level, or at least too much to lose weight at your activity level.

    My suggestion is to fill out your MFP profile correctly and with a reasonable weight loss goal (.5-1 pound per week) and then eat those calories plus at least half of your exercise calories.

    I just lost my baby weight. And it's only been 24 years! ;) My daughter is never amused when I use her as an excuse.

    My tip: It's not baby weight, it's just weight, and in order to lose it, you need to figure out your calorie deficit goal and stick to it.

    What she said. I lost my "baby" weight 22 years later.

    yeah.... that.

    but if i could blame my (former) 260 pounds after having 2 kids (the youngest being 8 when i started).... i t would be nice. LOL

    stop the excuses, eat within your calories, and youll get to where you need to be...

    This is the unfortunate truth. I didn't lose any weight through the first year because I had some complications from giving birth but my appetite was quite high from breastfeeding. So no matter what I did, the lbs didn't budge. But now that I'm weaned and mostly healed, I'm working my *kitten* off and it's coming off. Slowly, but steadily. Consult a trainer if you really need a kick on the backside to get your act together.

    Besides, some women do hold on to fat while nursing and that's a hormonal thing. But multiple years after the fact, your hormones should have settled down. So that's no longer the reason for your weight issue. It's going to take some old fashioned CICO.

    Sounds like you gained some weight (naturally) during the pregnancy. But the more significant factor being that you became less active but kept eating as you did when you were training for & running marathons. When activity level drops, you eat less or gain weight.

    Now you're heavier than you'd like to be, but have you ever reassessed your eating routines? If you're still eating like you did years ago, that's the 'problem'. To lose weight you need to eat less. If you put your stats into MFP and set for a 1 pound per week weight loss, you'll be given a recommendation of how many calories to eat per day. Use that guideline, and accurately & honestly log your food. Check for results over the next 30-60 days.

    There is however some truth in this somewhere, I'm sure - and I'm also sure you know it - but it is HORRIBLE admitting it, I get it completely. I have no doubt in my mind that pregnancy causes weight gain (I recently read up that anything up to 30 lbs is considered normal) and I can also completely understand that being a mother to a newborn means that calorie counting is NOWHERE NEAR the list of priorities. I think as time has gone on - you've simply found yourself habitually not tracking and being aware of food. The good news is, you can totally turn that around and we'll help you here! You're obviously very knowledgeable about the exercise aspect of things as you've done fantastically in the past so I'd suggest getting back into that 'tracking' habit and seeing how you get on. You can do this! :)

    Even when mine were toddlers I didn't have the energy to consider what was going into my mouth or to exercise so well done on being ready to start. My youngest is now ten and I've just made a start. Biggest thing that has helped me is getting them to scrape their plates into the bin when they've finished eating.

    i gained 4 stone with my first 3 years ago~!! yep 4 stone!!! this wasnt to squew wif hormones this was due to my insatiable appetit i ate for bloody england lol. i moved less. so yep all real natural weight. im still fighting today to get it off. i lost 3 of it, now just trying to lose the last stone plus 1 more for my goal. its a slow hard process but it really is about CICO that is all.
