I'm not overweight, just unhappy with the fat on my stomach. I am currently eating in the myfittnesspal calorie range of 1200 to lose 1 and 1/2 pounds a week. I know that exercize is good for you, but if I don't do it, will I still lose the weight?
Thanks
Thanks

You'll lose weight, but some of that weight will be muscle. Which leads to looking "skinny fat". You can prevent that with strength training, slower weight loss (1/2 to 1 lb per week), and a higher-protein diet.0

Thanks that was very helpful.

Yes, but you might not like the results when the weight is gone. Example:

Forgetting the health benefits of regular exercise there have been a number of studies that suggest those who exercise regularly are more successful at keeping the weight off long term than those who just watch what they eat.0
-
You can definitely lose weight without exercise - you just might not get the body look you're hoping for.0

This^
Many people exercise to help reduce lean muscle loss.
Lean muscle is firm and taut....that helps give you an overall slim look.0 -
exercise is not necessary to lose weight, however, it makes it much easier...you're also not likely to end up with the composition you're going for without it.0

no. exercise is for good health.0

The 2 butt comparison pic above is idiotic. Do you think people with round butts like Kim K(assuming no enhancement), got them by squatting? Butt shapes are genetic and dependent on fat cell distribution. That's why some women have straight, pear or apple shapes. To suggest that a person will develop a round butt by doing squats is ignorant. How many chest exercises will a flat chested woman need to do to grow a bust? It's not going to happen. She'll develop the pecs underneath just like squats would develop glutes but the amount of fatty tissue that makes up boobs and butts will determine the final shape and genetics determines the fat distribution and amount of fat cells in each region.0

Not required but it makes the loss more fun. You get some fitness and tone. The best part is you get to eat more calories.0
-
absolutely not, you just need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight.0

I've seen pics of the "before and after" for Kardashian. The only exercise that will get you that kind of butt is the walking you get going into an expensive plastic surgeon's office.
I agree. The before and after pics of women who have done body recomp are usually impressive and amazing. BUT posting two different butt pics of two people who might be very different in age - not really helpful or motivating. Person A is never going to look like person B without implants.
ETA: and with the prevalence of Photoshop on the net, it's quite possible person B doesn't even really look like person B.0 -
Exercise+Strength training=muscle development=faster fat loss. Muscle needs energy to stay healthy, which is from your food... Caloric deficiency will help you lose weight, BUT when you want to start eating again. you will gain it back because you dont have muscle to burn the calories off! Calorie deficit works, but is a very short term solution.
To make the best comparison. People who get liposuction usually tend to gain the weight back. Why? because their bodies arent used to the calories they continue to take into their body. The solution. Try and do some weight training, Even if you put some weight on first (packing on the muscle) you will lose weight in the end. Long term healthier solution.
SECOND. Depending on your calorie deficiency, you may be causing more harm then good. If you are in a deficiency of more than 300 calories per day, you are generally causing negative results rather than positive. once you start eating again. your body is going to want to feed itself for the energy its missing from the lacking food. So it will store a lot of the food youre putting in after youre done this deficit, and thats going to lead to alot of fat storage from not knowing what to do with all of the energy.
Hope im not all over the place with this post and it makes sense. Overall opinion. Yes, Exercise. It isnt required BUT it will expedite the process, make you happier, and will have long term results rather than short.0 -

Found the person that doesn't even...
Seriously though, if you don't believe weight training is not going to increase the size of the muscle you target via hypertrophy....I really don't know how to help you. I feel like that is fairly common knowledge. Breasts are a terrible comparison, they are connected to your chest, they are not part of your pectoral muscle. That is like trying to tell me I shouldn't work my hip adductors and expect my junk to get bigger. Of course it won't.
Kim Khardasian's behind is the result of a lot of fat storage. I would hardly call her butt round. She is "skinny fat", more or less, I would never call her "fit". So sure, genetics play a role in fat storage, but if you approach a lean bodyfat level that starts to become irrelevant regardless of your genetics. The fat eventually gets siphoned away from somewhere as you get leaner. That is where muscle plays its role in shaping the body.0 -

You cannot control where you deposit your fat, of course...but you can grow and shape the muscles that lies beneath (except calves...they don't even...lol).
