Stupid stupid stupid

Just stupidly jumped on the scale and it reckons I've put on nearly 4lbs since yesterday morning!!!
1 I was fully clothed (usually in my bday suit)
2 I had just eaten dinner
3 I haven't been to the errrr toilet today
4 I'm ill and have been lying on the settee all day.
But I still feel so demoralised! I know it's completely impossible that I've really gained especially as I've been under my calories allowances (set to sedentary and loose 2lb a week) and being super strict.
Just need somebody else to tell me that I'm right and there is no way I've put that weight on!!!
Thank you

OK, don't do that any more lol. Step on scale under the same conditions each time: first thing in the AM. Unclothed. After using bathroom. Before consuming anything, even water. Just ignore the weight you took today. A lot of that is not your body.
Also if you work out hard, you might want to skip the next AM, as your muscles will retain water while repairing themselves. Weigh the following morning, under the listed conditions, before your workout.0 -
could be lunar eclips pulling you down more onto scale0

Haha, I was just going to post the same thing.
I do what gothchiq said - get up, empty bladder, step on scales naked, same time every day.
For fun, when you get undressed, take all the clothes you were wearing when you got on the scale, including underwear, socks and shoes, and put them on the scale. I think you will be surprised how much they weigh.

For fun... Us lot are so rock and roll!!! Thank you. I will x0 -
Doubt that you gained 4 pounds. What really and truly helped me was to realize that if I eat something high in sodium, I could retain a bottle of water. One 16 oz bottle of water is a pound. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to see it come back down.0

You already listed in your post some of the possible causes: you were wearing clothes, you're ill and you just ate.
Your clothes weigh 1 to 2 pounds. The full weight of the food and drink you consumed in your dinner is going to be sitting in your stomach. You may be retaining a little water due to your illness.
You can't expect to step on the scale under different conditions than usual and see a weight that correlates to your weight loss progress displayed. You simply need to understand that weight fluctuates from hour to hour throughout the day as you eat, drink, use the bathroom, change clothes, etc.0 -
Eh, relax. If you start doing that every day you will get used to the bounce. The only number you count is first thing in the morning, naked, after toilet, and even that can be affected by a multitude of factors such as time of morning you crawl out of bed, time of month for females, how late you ate the night before, exercise water weight gain or loss from rest days, ad nauseum. Take that thing with a sense of humor or throw it out. I swear, my scale isn't far off from being thrown out, or rather donated. It lies. My clothing fit almost never does.0

Everything counts. Including ponytail holders.0 -
I will weigh through out the day just to see what changes.. It's not uncommon for me to be up 3-5 pounds by evening as compared to in the morning. I only track and measure my weight in the morning after I pee and totally naked. Even then I weigh every day and track it and I bounce up and down. It's the trend over time that yields the results you want. While I know it SUCKS.. it's normal and doesn't mean you are not headed in the right direction... so don't despair!!0

I best take my earrings out too! Lol0 -
You're doing fine. Step away from the scale and keep on doing what you're doing.0 -
Maybe your exchanging body fat for muscle. You know muscle weights more than fat. Hide that scale for six weeks stick to your plan and you won't be disappointed. It's true your weight goes up and down 2:3 ponds everyday. And drink a gallon of water a day. You're doing great. Just don't get discouraged!0

OK, this might hurt, but it kind of sounds like you wanted to have a bad outcome. You weighed yourself under the worst conditions. Why? If you're ill, maybe you were already feeling down and wanted to feel even worse?? You could not have expected a great outcome! Lesson: only weight yourself once per week, under the same circumstances every time; i.e. as soon as you get up and go to the bathroom, on the same day of the week, fully NOT clothed and having "fasted" overnight. That's when you'll get the most consistent results.
