Night Out ADVICE

Hi everyone,

On Saturday I have a night out planned, which will involve alcohol and dancing. Now my drink of choice is gin & tonic, so if it's slim line it will be pretty low calorie. However, I've been doing so well, I don't want a night to ruin my weeks weight loss.

My question is... Do I reduce my food to allow for drink calories (which would be silly as I need food to stop me getting too silly)? Or do I just accept that I might go over?

To be fair, I am usually under my daily calorie goal of 1200 and find it quite easy to do so, but if each drink has 56 calories, if I consume 4 I could be way over!!
HELP!!

    really? under 1200 normally? do you realize how unhealthy that is?

    As for your night out why worry one night will not derail you.

    Go have fun drink dance...eat some food log it and move on.
  • You could also eat/drink at maintence for that night as well :smile:

    Then don't drink if you cannot accept going over.
    Eat the food instead, alcohol is good for nothing.
    Or do some exercise.

    Stick to your calories, go over with the drinks, and consider the dancing exercise.

    This. When I go out dancing I am non stop dancing (I sometimes forget that I'm suppose to be drinking hahaha) so I consider the dancing exercise.

    You just need to plan ahead... Eat a little lower the rest of the day (maybe have 1 less egg for breakfast, skip the bread at lunch) to allow for more in the evening... Do some cardio that day to "earn" some extra calories, and IF you're going to be continuously dancing then count that as extra workout too... You don't NEED to have 4 drinks, just have 2 and eat what you want for dinner :)

    Plan ahead and decide how many drinks you will have, and work them into your calories.

    And if you're eating under 1200 right now, you're eating too few calories in general. You should eat more.

    Why would you be eating under 1200? MFP is designed so you have a base, then exercise to earn additional calories. You're not eating enough.

    I have drinks with friends almost every weekend, and my daily calories are 1200-1300. I just fit them into my calories. FYI tonic does have calories, so if you'd like to have lower calorie drinks consider using soda water or diet coke as mixers (maybe not with gin though, that may taste weird).

    Are you set to lose 2lb a week? So that means you need to eat 7000 calories less than you burn in a week.

    If you're eating 4000 less one week instead of 7000, you'll still be in a deficit for the week (a little over a lb of weight loss in this example, instead of the usual 2 lbs)

    Or you can go on a bender, and drink 7000 calories worth of alcohol. You may end up hospitalized, but that's your choice if you do this.

    You shouldn't be under 1200 calories. And each drink does not have 56 calories. Mixed drinks have 2 oz of liquor.

    I think you should just go drink and dance. And probably eat something first.

    I'll echo everyone else - you should certainly not be under 1200.

    I will say this: Forget your calorie counting and enjoy your night out. You're human, how on earth are you supposed to keep this up long-term if you are deprived of normal social outings? It's one evening out of plenty of 'good days'. Let your hair down and ENJOY. Get back on track the following day. :)

    Sorry for not being helpful here, but I don't see how you could find eating under 1200cal easy... There's like no food that can fit in there. It's not a very healthy mindset to be cutting everything every day.

    MFP has set my daily calorie intake at 1200 to loose 2lb a week, most days I log around 1100 after accurately logging. I find that easy and I am satisfied. So long as I am eating more than 1000 calories MFP is happy, and I'm happy because I'm loosing. I'm not obese, and after loosing a stone, I am now in the healthy BMI range. I'd just like to loose a bit more so I'm not at the top end of the healthy BMI.

    If you're now in the healthy BMI range, 2 lbs a week weight loss is FAR FAR too aggressive.

    1/2 lb a week is what you should be aiming for.

    You misunderstand

    1) you have told it you want to lose 2lb a week, that's too fast with not much to go as mentioned above. It should be far slower

    2) 1200 is the minimum amount for a woman and is without exercise. What's your activity level set at? Do you really do no exercise. You should be eating those back too

    And then you're only eating 1000. That's how you decimate your LBM which isn't a great idea as muscle is what makes you look tight, taut, toned

    4 x 56 is 224 extra calories. If you are chronically under 1200 and you will be dancing this is not going to hurt your weight loss efforts. It might actually help it.

    HELP!!

    What kind of G&T are you having that is so low? An ounce of gin (at 40% ABV) is 64 calories by itself. I've never had a G&T have less than 1.5 - 2 ounces of gin.

    Either way, 4 drinks won't ruin your deficit.



    Not really relevant, but a Gin Daisy, or a Gin Rickey is more my speed. Not that tonic is bad.
