Lamyong Vegetarian Ribs Nutrition

Hi everyone,

I bought these vegetarian ribs as a treat, but am a bit confused about the nutritional information:

1. The calories and macros do not seem to add up. Using carb/fat/protein = 4/9/4, I calculated it to be 234cal/100g, yet the packaging states 291cal/100g. This seems to be a large difference, even with a margin for error.

2. 18g of fibre for 100g serve? This seems to be a lot.

Anyway, I thought I'd post for some input. Maybe I'm just having a durr moment.. :P

Biggest ingredient is mushroom. Lots of fibre in mushrooms regarding your point 2.

The fibre is probably given a calorie value that you aren't including, not sure where you are but labelling regulations do vary in this regard. It's not an American product so the fibre isn't included under "Total Carbs".

Thanks for your reply, yarwell. I'm in Australia, though I'm not really that concerned about it anyway, was just curious.

Oh, and the rib 'bone' is made from sugarcane sticks, so that could also account for the high fibre. Anyway, they taste good, so I'm happy

Mate, this was never a matter of "clean" or "dirty" food. And the ingredients are clearly listed on the packaging in the photo.

I'm not really much help with regards to your original question - but these look deeeelish and I've never seen anything like them in the stores here (Canada)! I might check out some of my local Asian grocers though because I'd love to try these.

    Hope you enjoyed them :)

makes me wonder how many ingredients and preservatives this contains
definitively not one of those "clean" foods
the only ones i can see is - gluten flour

Other ingredients include mushrooms, tomato, chili, soy protein, vinegar, salt, and sugar. None of those foods are "dirty," not that OP asked for your opinion on how clean her food was . . .

my bad- only one i saw was gluten flour and spooked me
i don't want this thread to be based on my answer - hope it is let go

Gluten flour is a perfectly safe, healthful, and appropriate food for people without gluten allergies/intolerance. There is no reason to avoid gluten unless you have a medical condition related to it.

Gluten flour is how it gets the mock meat texture.
Where did you buy the product? It looks yum.

Not sure where you are, I'm in Australia. I bought it from an Asian grocery store in Sydney. Not sure if Lamyong products are available outside Aus.

I live in Melbourne, have plenty of Asian grocery stores around here. Will keep a look out for them :)

In that case, I'm sure you'll find it somewhere. Asian grocers are a goldmine for vegetarian food

I am a bit confused by a vegetarian meal being called "ribs." What's the point?

I kind of liken this to a woman dating a very masculine one. So, you don't like men, but you use a *kitten* and date women that look like men?

What's wrong with having a bit of fun with food? Just because someone does not want to eat animals, does not mean they should be confined to a life of salads and slabs of tofu.

You clearly have a strong understanding of lesbian sexuality. Bravo

Many of us (vegetarians and vegans) didn't quit eating meat because we hated the taste -- it's because we had concerns about how animals are treated.
