Calorie goal changed against my will

Hello,

I am a little confused nd just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

I have been on MFP for two months and doing diet and exercise etc. I have lost 8lbs approximately and am really pleased (I still eat well, balanced and don't feel starving hungry all the time.)

MFP set my calorie goal as 1200 and I have managed to stick to about 1400 - 1500 a day with exercise on top most days (odd splurges of course!)

I put in my new weight this morning and MFP jumped up my calorie goal to 1550 which seems a lot! Why would it have done this? I still want to lose another 5lbs or so!

Any help is much appreciated.

Harri

How big was the difference in weight between your old and current entries? Did you change your loss per week rate (which is advised as you get closer to goal)?

You can always manually set it to 1400-1500 (whichever number you choose. Its just making a recommendation, but you know your body best. I say go with what is working.

Were you set at loss of 2 lbs/week when you started, which almost always ends up at 1200 cals (the lowest MFP will recommend) and now you are set at 1 lb/week, which 1550 might be more reasonable? Or before you were set at sedentary and it has been changed to lightly active or active? When I got my FitBit after a few weeks/months of activity MFP automatically changed my activity level to active and bumped up my cals, which was great for me because now the adjustments are smaller and more representative of my actual exercise, not my basic day to day activity.

As others have said, check all your settings and if nothing else you can do a custom goal of whatever level you prefer, but 1200 is generally lower than necessary for much of the population.

Edited to add that if you are only trying to lose 5 more lbs then 0.5 lb/week is what you should be set at in MFP and 1550 is definitely a reasonable number for that loss.

I didn't even lose till I upped my calories from 1420 to 1600 per day. My body just wasn't getting enough nutrition on the lower calorie setting. Now I am up to a 55# weight loss.

More food doesn't lead to more weight loss.

Not directly. But if you're not eating enough, it will lead to binge eating, or sneaking snacks and things. So in can stall weight loss indirectly if it is and unrealistic goal.

    A. No. Not "will." Might. B. If someone is binging and sneaking, she isn't eating the 1420, anyway.

So, no, it can't. Eating too much can.

Thanks everyone for responding! It may be because I changed my target weight in my mind but not on here and I have hit my previous target now! I will adjust my target. And as someone rightly said, I know my body and will just stick to what seems to be working. Cheers guys
