I'm having real trouble getting my water consumption up. When I get to about 4 glasses ( 4 X 350ml) I feel really bloated and get a tummy ache............any suggestions please?

Spread it out over the course of the day. I drink at least 36 oz in a one hour workout, so maybe work out harder?0

UGH, apologies, I just checked out your profile.
Spread that water out throughout the day. Have a glass as soon as you wake up. Have another immediately before bed. Have one or two with every meal, and keep a water bottle with you to sip from throughout the day. You'll hit that goal in no time.0 -
I usually have 1 as soon as I get up in the morning, a cup of herbal tea with breakfast, 1 glass of water with lunch and dinner then another at bedtime. Anything over that that is causing me problems.0

Thanks, I'll have a go.0

Are you dehydrated? There is very rarely any reason to force yourself to drink more water.0

No, I'm trying to drink the recommended 8 glasses a day but I can't seem to quite manage it0

Nevertheless, many people - while they may not need 8 glasses of water per day - do have a psychological need for easy-to-understand (and relatively easy to apply) rules, which promise various benefits if only one obeys them. So I really doubt whether this particular myth will go away in my lifetime.0 -

In addition, IIRC that "8 glasses of water" doesn't mean you have to force yourself to drink 8 glasses of pure water...but would include water you ingest from other sources (coffee, tea, and yes, even soda, fruits, etc).0 -
I have also struggled with consuming my recommended amount of water! What really helped me was to set a daily reminder on my phone, every hour (Or however often you need) set an alarm that says "water time" or have a goal to drink 3 glasses of water by 11am and then 6 glasses by 3pm and so on.0

Alden7492 - Thank you for your constructive comments. I have tried the alarm method, when I was working, and it worked fine. Since I've had IBS it has been a struggle but I have settled on 4 glasses a day plus a couple of herbal teas. I was also drinking before a meal to help me eat less......I've now stopped doing that as all it does is make me terribly bloated and I end up with stomach cramps. I'm still not drinking the 8 but am comfortable with what I'm doing. Thanks again.
Juggernaut1974 and Michael314159 - Thanks for the reports, I had been trying to get up to 8 glasses since my IBS and kidney infection kicked in to flush my body but the IBS has made it difficult, I used to drink a lot before that. Thanks again.0
