My scale says I've lost 20 pounds since earlier this year, but . . .

I'm not sure I'm noticing the changes. I think my dress got looser earlier this year when I was on the ball with my calories, but I'm not sure I've noticed any changes lately. Is it just water weight?

If you normally wear stretchy pants, weight loss won't be very noticeable in them. I move out of a size in jeans in less than 20 pounds. I don't really notice 20 pounds in the mirror.0

Well, I do mostly wear stretchy dresses, so . . . not sure.0

It took me about 30 pounds lost before I noticed a difference in my clothes (jeans). It's hard to tell when loose fitting clothes get looser, especially if they are a dress. I find taking pictures really helps. I see the same thing day in and day out in the mirror. If I compare two progress photos, I can spot the smaller differences that I can't see in the mirror.
I like using lots of different measures for progress: scale, fit of my clothes, tape measure, and photos.0 -
I lost 55lbs and still wear most of the same clothes and don't feel a difference in them, the only clothes I needed to get new ones of were non-stretchy jeans (and even then that was only twice, so about every 25lbs). I then gained nearly 20lbs back (went from 112lbs to 130lbs) and felt no difference at all in clothes, or in how I looked - I didn't even know I'd gained that weight until I weighed myself again (last time I try the whole 'ditch the scales' thing).0

No, it's not just water.0

Do you all finds that taking pictures like that scares the poop out of you? I've thought about this but I don't enjoy taking pictures if myself with clothes fully covering me from neck to toes, can't imagine trying to take one without breaking down *again* in a bra and panty our even formed t shirtand shorts even of it is for a great reason0

I took Before pictures in bra, underwear, and a men's thin clingy white tank top.0

You can be losing weight in odd places and still be losing weight - legs, arms and back especially are where it's not really noticeable until quite a lot of weight has gone. Depending on how much weight you have to lose, those dress sizes up at the top end of things are pretty forgiving, so losing or gaining weight whilst wearing them is far less noticeable than if you were in smaller, tighter clothes.
From my experience, I found that exercise made a far greater difference in how my clothes fit, than just weight loss alone. Exercise has completely changed my body shape, even when the scales haven't reduced all that dramatically during that same time period. Inches lost are just as important to keep track of as pounds lost - and one isn't necessarily dependent on the other!0 -

Personally I don't understand the appeal, of taking "before" pictures; even for documentation purposes. Why'd someone desire to photograph, their initial disappointment? Many have said that it encourages them to lose weight, it does the opposite for me. It makes me feel like I am looking at, the "point of no return". It's intimidating, for me to view all of the weight; that I have to lose. I'd rather just photograph, my accomplishments but even that wasn't fool proof because after I had reached my goal size, for my bikini; I put it on & cried because of how awful my reflection still was, therefore I didn't take a picture of myself wearing it.0 -
To see non-scale progress. I suppose this, like most things, is personal preference.0

Before pictures are great.. it gives you something to compare to for progress as you go along. Also, comparing before and after photos is great for those who have lost weight but cannot see it for themselves. You see, even after you've lost the weight and don't like what you see, you can look back on that before shot and say "holy crap...I HAVE come a LONG way!".0 -
