Shock Feeling

So I was doing tricep extensions and my elbow started to feel numb and when I reached a full extension a shock sensation ran up through my elbow to my head. I've never had a feelin like this before. I stopped the extensions but I'm wondering if it's my posture and what I'm doing wrong.

I had nerve issues with my left elbow due to a major bone spur which wouldn't allow me to straighten my arm without a shock going down to my pinky. Surgery took care of it, but I couldn't lift upper body for a couple of months till it was fully healed.

Do you get the pain on pushups? Those work the triceps as well as chest, which basically eliminates the need for a newbie to do isolated triceps exercises. Likewise, rows and chinups can eliminate bicep exercises.
