Too old? Too fat

59 and still way overweight. My efforts have been successful in the past - for very short times. This will be the time it sticks.

I am 62, have already lost 65 pounds and have about 35 or so more to go. A lot of the reason for my success is the mutual support I have gotten on MFP in that group.0 -

My dear departed mum lost her weight when she was 67. Almost as soon as she retired, she lost those stubborn 20 pounds that had hung around her middle that she could never lose, even though she was very active and walked miles and miles every day. I blame working too hard and not taking time for a proper healthy lunch, whereas when she retired she cut out the lunchtime quick meals and just ate her home cooking, which was fantastic and very healthy. It's never too late. Never, ever. You don't have to wait until you're retired (I'm sure not)!0

getting the right mindset is a big help After a lifetime of doing almost every fad diet there is, finally at age 52 i'm eating healthy & losing weight. Down 60 pounds now with 40 to 60 to go. You can do it!0

I'm only a few years younger than you, and I started on here Jan 2nd and lost 25 lbs. pretty easily, even though I"d been unable to do it on my own. There are a LOT of us in our 50's, 60's and even 70's on here. This is a time of life when we realize how taking care of our bodies pays big dividends in health, not just looks. I'm not home-free--I've gained a few pounds back and am staying on here to both maintain and occasionally lose again. The site and my friends keep me trying. So welcome, and enjoy the journey!

Support does help & i have found that using the groups & adding friends helps me to stay accountable. Watching the success of others is inspiring or helping each other through tough times.0

I just joined this group yesterday. I've read through your posts have found them encouraging but sometimes overwhelming. Some of you are a long ways down this marathon.
One thing I've liked is setting goals for the month of October. There are at least 20 I need to do but I'm going to set just 3.
1) Log in everything I eat.
2) Drink 8 glasses of water per day.
3) Never eat in the car. (Drive-threw lines and/or eating alone are big downfalls for me.)

You're never too old! I think a lot of people on here feel old, because we are each as old as we've ever been. I am 36 which isn't old, but I feel old for this - like "why did I wait so long!" and "Ugh, this is so much harder and slower than before", but I think with age comes determination and experience. We can do it!0

I am 69 years young and have lost 92 pounds - I still have another 93 lbs to go and know I will get there. There is no "DIET" this is a lifetime change to the way I eat. I log everything I eat everyday. While I agree that as long as you have a calorie deficit you will lose weight no matter what you eat - I choose to eat healthy and stay within the calorie limit suggested by MFP in order for me to lose 2 lbs a week. And that is exactly what's happened. After the initial large weight loss the first and second week due to water weight loss I have managed to continually lose 2-3 lbs a week. So my suggestions are: Log in your Food Diary every bite you eat everyday; set small attainable goals that will lead to your end goal; celebrate your successes with something other than food; and join a group or thread for support and motivation. You can do this!0

49 and ready to lose! My first vow is to log my food each day. 60 lbs to lose and I would love too be well on my way to that number when I reach 50.0
