Water retention despite very little sodium

Options
Hello,
I have had water retention problems for as long as I can remember (even as a kid), but I don't have a lot of sodium/salt in my daily diet.
I cook, almost never have processed food, but my articulations and fingers are clerly showing the signs.
I try to drink enough water but it doesn't have any effect.
Are you in the same situation?

Also, can water retention be linked somewhat to blood? My father just learnt he has problem with his blood -too thick (if that means something in english (im french), and it's probably genetical.

No he was tested for that, no diabet, no cholesterol.
He's having new super detailled blood testing because, hopefully, everything else (cardiac problems...) have been tested and they were all good. It's probably genetic.

Thank you for your advices about vitamin.
It's true I'm having trouble reaching the vitamin goal on the app.
    I'll look for some.

Water retention can also be due to eating a lot of carbs and hormones (like TOM for many women).
I second the visit to the doctor though.

I had edema when I had kidney stones.

Hopefully seeing an endocrinologist will help! Keep us updated on your dad's test results!

If your father has polycythemia (too many red blood cells causing very thick blood), then I'm sorry to hear that. My Dad also has that and is on cancer drugs, and get his blood let every few months (to thin it out). Once it is monitored and controlled, he should be able to live a semi normal life. New meds are also helping a lot. It can be genetic, but chances are that you will not be affected. It can run in families, but that isn't clear yet.

Either way, I hope your father is ok, and that your doctor is able to help.

My son has water retention, occasionally, due to a kidney condition called minimal change disorder, in which the kidney pores change shape and allow proteins to be filtered out. Water tries to follow the protein, so he is peeing the proteins out and it causes the water retention.

I have a veiricose vein in one leg that cause me to retain water, but, only in that leg.

Definitely see a doctor. It can be caused by a lot of things.

You can "hold" water for many reasons.

I have the same i dont use salt at all in my cooking for a medical reasons.
But still when i come above the 1000 to 1500 mg salt a day ( all foods have their natural salt) i notice this.

But think of your period, exercise ( muscles need water to repair so can hold water) hormones kidney's blood pressure, heart diseases, a whole slur of medications cause "holding water" etc. So many reasons, some dangerous, but many of them not.
And indeed only your doctor can help you out.

Just keep drinking enough and wait what your doctor have to say about it.

    Good luck OP

High blood pressure can cause water retention. Also intense exercise, too much sodium, and hormones.

Ignore all the advice here including mine and listen to your doctor. My best wishes to you.
