My plan is to shrink 40lbs

I'm a yoyo dieter. I've lost this weight before but then I would get stuck at a plateau for a long period of time, get frustrated and give up. I gained all the weight back and once again, I'm unhappy. This time i don't want to give up, even if I plateau. I need to stay strong and motivated. So here I am! Let's do this!

People RARELY plateau. They may STALL, but plateaus are really hard to attain. A plateau is 6 weeks or more of no weight movement IF the person is TOTALLY consistent during that time. That would mean same patterns of eating, exercising, sleeping, etc. Any devoid from that program at all (even if it were just having an unintended snack), would change it from plateau, to stall.

    Main reasons why people stall:

Inconsistency, lack of responding to a lower metabolic rate (homeostasis), guessing calories instead of correctly measuring.

Thanks for all that. I guess I have no idea what the heck I'm talking about. Feels good to be enlightened.

The information should help with assessment on what could be causing the stall. The mentioned issues once addressed, will usually result in getting back on track.
Oh and if the deficit is too high (more than 1% loss of body weight per week), then homeostasis sets in faster.

Welcome to MFP! Whether it is a plateau, a stall, or a serious slow down in weight loss it can cause you to lose some motivation. When that happens (and it most likely will again)...this is the place to ask for help. You will get tons of ideas from others about what has worked for them to break through those times, then you can choose what might work for you and try it!

When it happens to me, I find it helps to go back to basics...straight up lean proteins, fruits, veggies, and everything weighed carefully so I stay within my calorie goal.

You have all of the tools you need to be successful, I look forward to following your journey!

Welcome to MFP, there is a lot of very knowledgeable people here. I have learned tons from them.
Take this one step, one day, one pound at a time. Don't always focus on the scale, take measurements, changes show in how your clothes fit. Mine are now pretty much falling off lol
Weigh your food & log accurately, for me this is important as i "forget" some items but if i log right away, then i'm good.
I'm down 62 pounds, if i can do it so can you :)
All the best to you in this journey to health

I lost 40 pounds! It took me a year, and I am still 10 pounds from my goal weight. I actually just got over a plateau / stall / whatever you want to call it, too. I was stuck between 160 and 162 for 3 months! I simply could not get below 160. I am proud to report that I finally hit 159.6 a few days ago. If that happens to you, just keep going and remember that if you give up, you will definitely go backwards.
