Love hearing people's stories about how they landed their current job: promotion, neighbor is the boss, work for family, just applied to an ad on the internet, knew someone who knew someone who knew someone, etc.... :flowerforyou:

My aunt's the CFO. I interviewed with someone else and everything but that's honestly probably why I got it...I love my job though!

I'm a career counselor so I find this topic fascinating! I got my current position by keeping my eye on the website for appropriate openings. It took 7 YEARS, but finally, the right thing opened up at just the right time.

I came into my job 7 years ago at a temporary entry level position. This was right after I divorced my ex husband and was a stay at home mom. I started at the bottom...... I now have my own office and am a manager. =)

Been at my current job for ten years now. They found my resume at an IT specific job site and emailed me for an interview. What I found funny was the resume was over a year old because I'd already found a job, but was unhappy with it. Sent them an updated resume, had that interview, and have been happy here since.

    how timely!
I just got it a few days ago...thanks to my sister :)

We are both teachers, and I have a credential, while she teaches at the college level so she doesn't need one. When she finds job listings that require a credential, she forwards them to me. I took a glance at it, mistook the acronym (IEJCC) and dismissed it. I deciphered that as Inland Empire Juvenile Correctional Center. I wasn't interested in teaching juvy kids, TYVM. The next day, she called and asked me if I had applied, and I told her no, and why. She pointed out that a paycheck of any kind is nice to have while you look for something else...go for it. Turns out I was wrong about the meaning of IEJCC. It stands for Inland Empire Job Corps Center. There are no juvenile delinquents at all LOL. I will be teaching the GED program...an easy job IMHO compared to my resume. It's VERY sweet!!!

So I owe her big time!!

I've been taking photography since my Freshman year of high school, and then into college. I was looking for a wedding photographer for my wedding, and was getting really upset that every photographer I found that was any good was really expensive...or they only showed up for an hour...or they didn't give you the printing rights. It was ticking me off. How was someone on a budget supposed to hire a photographer? I mean my WHOLE wedding budget was UNDER $5000 (sorry, but I'd rather buy a house than pay $50,000 for 1 day)....and the lowest price I could seem to get for photography was about $1000, and that was only for like 4 hours of pictures, and then I still had to buy the prints from them. :grumble:

After about 3 months of looking, I got pissed, and said..."you know what, I do photography, I have what it takes"...and started my own wedding photography business for affordable wedding photography. (Though after actually working in...I found out a little more why it's so expensive....haha....but I still try to keep my prices reasonable.)

Right now I offer 12 hrs photography, DVD w/ print release (so you can print your pictures whenever you want), Thank you cards & and Album for $1000. Or just 12 hrs photography & DVD for $650 ... I think I'm still staying with my original goal. I think O.o

    Wow...my story is long.

I am a college student and my advisor sent an e-mail with a job listing. I decided to apply for the heck of it. Over a month later I got a call, I was very confused when she called becasue it was so long ago! Two interviews later I have a great job with my own office! They are super flexable with my school schedule and have offered me a full time position when I graduate.

My family got me a job with the Federal, but mostly my sister because were in the same title and work with each other. Working with the Federal, if you have relatives you get more chances on getting the job, it even ask you when you apply. Funny how most people got there job by someone they knew/know.

I went to school for a year, from tuesday-saturday 830 to 5......then the hairdresser i went to knew my mom(who used to be a hairdresser) and i went to her since i was 17, but she worked at a new salon and the only reason why i got accepted in by the owner was because of her high reccommendation of me. Then our salon merged with the salon my Mom used to work at, and this is now where I'm at.

I got desperate after being unemployed in my field for months and got turned down for a job I was perfect for and told I already had been selected for in favor of the uneducated or experienced cousin of the organizations vice president, that I went to suway and filled out an application ommiting my high school, associates and bachelors degree, and all previous work experience, and got called the same day.
And now I am paying for it by being punished by the teen age managers for bringing it to the owners attention that my paycheck was less than the amount of hours I worked, and questioning the legality of several other practices, silly me. But it is very hard to find a job in a town with an unemplyment rate over 50%

I graduated from College April 2010.
I studied Media Production Communications in college and landed a media logging position/highlight clipping (entry level position) a few months right out of college. My fiance grew up in the town we live in, I started him a FB page and the facebook page linked him to old friends. One of the old friends was currently in Duplication for THE PGA TOUR! He saw that I was interested in media production and I called the right people, and nagged them until I got an interview.
I have played golf competitively my whole life so this is my dream job/company!!!

I called the President/manager of the company scored an interview and got the job within a few weeks. As you can see I am a vry stubborn/motivated person!! Just recently in May 2011, I got a promotion to Assistant Director and Production assistant for the International team at the PGA TOUR entertainment (production company for the tour)!! I now created teasers/recaps/features for our international clients AND I work the EIF (enhanced international feed) show for our international clients!!

I LOVE MY JOB!! its wonderful so fulfilling and fast paced!! I AM SOOOOO BLESSED.

I worked for a competitor who was losing a contract to my eventual new company (who I previously worked for four years earlier). I told my eventual boss that they would be stupid for not bringing me on with the new contract, showed them what I could do, gave them impeccable references, and then held them hostage for a $10K bump in pay and a car allowance.

    I am one negotiating muthafu**a...

Been here six years and am getting ready to start a new service line for Honda of America (one of my company's biggest customers)...money is good, the hours are lousy, and I live in a hotel...but I kick *kitten* at it!

Worked for a pharmaceutical manufacturer because I knew someone in the facilities department who got me an interview. I had the requisite experience because I was a maintenance guy for a gym for several years, a job that I got from a family member hookup.

Pharma manufacturer had a vendor who i worked with daily for 2 years. eventually figured out the vendor was a better fit both personally and professionally. Had impressed said vendor enough over the 2 years that I was hired on the spot with no interview. that was nearly 3 years ago, and I love working for one of the largest engineering firms in the world. My old employer is still one of our biggest customers, and i'm responsible for much of that account. I am happy because i get to do stuff that I'm good regardless of the fact that I don't have a degree, and am paid well. =)

I had spent about a year looking for a job, applying places and never getting the interview. I finally decided I was destined to stay in my job that I didn't enjoy. About this time my husband finally told me I had put off going to the eye doctor long enough, so he made an appointment for me. I showed up, saw a job posting at the receptionist's desk. I asked about it. I went home and applied online right away. I didn't get a call about it until a month later because I guess they had been too swamped to start interviews. I went in for an interview after my shift one day, and left with an appointment to get drug tested. I was hired a week later. Now I'm the technician giving those prelim eye tests ;) Sometimes it really does all come together when you stop looking for it.

Got mine by blood, sweat, and tears. Since I don't play well with others I started my own company. Best decision EVAH!

I consult with other business and non-profits about increasing their business through the use of social media and a well crafted website. I also create websites and kick *kitten* with SEO. When my husband's company closed down and laid everyone off he came on board full time. With him I was able to add in copyediting & copywriting.
