i love mochas and drink them at work. i looked up how many calories in a mocha and each site gives me different answers ranging from 70-350 kcals! they say starbucks drinks have loads of calories. i dont get how a mocha from starbucks can have so many calories- it's a bit of chocolate powder which is like 60 kcals, milk (70 kcals max) and coffee (2 kcals). I get my coffee from a coffee machine. not knowing how many calories in something makes me a bit obsessed. any ideas??

Did you make it yourself or buy it from a coffee place?

    Sugarrrrr. And fat (cream).

Mochas have a lot unless you make your own with skim milk and an artificial sweetener. Default at 350 cals unless you've made it yourself and can vouch for the ingredients.

Next time you swing by for a mocha I would look around for a brand name to use in your search. Those instant mocha convenience store-type machines will be less than a Starbucks mocha, but they do vary from brand to brand.

I looked up the brand but I didn't find any info on calories. I only have one a day. The serving isn't that big either, just enough for a small cup of coffee. I don't want to obsess over it but I can't help it. I don't really like Starbucks either. I find their tall (small) size is quite big and plus I find Starbucks a bit tasteless (I usually order low fat) but still Starbucks is overrated. The coffee machine at work does much nicer coffee.

Assume the higher calorie count in the absence of other information. It likely tastes better because of fat.

I had learned that cocoa is defatted chocolate, which I thought was awesome. Then I found out that even so, every five grams of cocoa (tablespoon) has one gram of fat. Sad, sad day. Now I straighten my shoulders and claim those twelve calories as being Worth It Every Sip.

If the coffee machine is automated I used to have those at my college. I would use the mocha/cappuccino info from gas stations. Speedway, Thorntons, 7-11, they are all probably made the same way as the one at your office with powders - 150 cals per 8oz. Plain coffee is different, I would use 1.5oz - 2oz cream to be safe.

How about stop drinking the mocha at work and make your own healthy alternative at home or keep your supply's to make it at work? That way you won't have to worry about. :)

Is the machine the type that you fill with powder? ( I'm asking because my job has one that is filled with powder, and I know the calorie count

If you didn't make it, you have no way of knowing. And even if you figure out the ingredients and quantities the machine uses, who's to say that the vending company doesn't change products.

I'd buy the ingredients and make it myself. Pack your own chute!
