Hypothyroid and hunger

recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Does anyone ever feel that the symptoms of hypo make it difficult to distinguish whether you're hungry or not? I get weird feelings in my throat, face, and body from the hypo, but it also feels like hunger, even an hour after I have eaten. Does anyone else have trouble determining if they're hungry or if it's just your thyroid symptoms? Or am I the only one?): I am taking medication now btw. Very low dose to start. Just wondering if anyone else has this feeling.

I was diagnosed in June.
I don't know if I was really physically hungrier before I was diagnosed, or if I wanted to eat more in an effort to try to help with the tiredness and lack of energy (more a mental thing than true physical hunger). I'm not sure I'm explaining the difference in those two very well. But anyway . . . now that I'm medicated and my numbers are in a pretty good range, it really does seem that I'm less hungry.0 -
Before my pills stabilized, I craved carbs like my life depended on them. I was a little farther gone than most people, being severly hypo as well as having breathing problems, but I seriously needed energy coming in all the time, even if I wasn't hungry. It was terrible.
I always knew the difference between needing food and being hungry, though. That feeling, among other things, landed me in the doctor's office several times. He didn't believe me and didn't run a thyroid panel, but I knew something was up.
After the thyroid came out and the pills stabilized, I started losing weight for the first time in my life. Down 96 pounds so far!0 -
I have hypo - I think in the beginning you are so tired and lack the energy you naturally turn to food.
I have found since being on the pills , I don't crave food as much.
I also find that sticking to 3 meals a day is helpful for stopping hunger pains0 -
I have trouble with the hunger/not hunger signals...I've been hypothyroid my whole life (but I am medicated).0

I have had hypo thyroid problems for years. I eventually had to have my thyroid removed. The various symptoms of a hypo thyroid ; the depression associated, the tiredness, the stress, the lack of energy. ....all those symptoms of a hormonal imbalance, have caused eating issues for me.
I found medication helps to an extent. I have to make a conscience effort to eat right regardless of how I feel. Eat when not hungry. ..don't eat even tho I feel hungry. Make every day a deliberate eating healthy choice day regardless of my hormone imbalance. Maybe because my thyroid has been removed, I will always find eating to be an issue.0 -

Talk to your dr. The symptoms you describe do not sound like anything hypothyroidism can cause.0 -

I tend to agree with this.
I've been taking thyroid meds for something like 25 years and these don't ring a bell for me. I tend not to have much hunger at all, to the point where I used to forget to eat and then kind of crash. Getting on a schedule and eating reasonable amounts throughout the day helps me a lot.
A simple thing that you can try on your own is drinking more instead of eating when that hunger hits you not too long after a meal.0 -

I did. I just got my blood back today. My thyroid is still low, but I think it's just the lack of energy and me wanting to make up for it by eating more food. I think it's a little bit mental, but I do also feel better when I eat more for sure!
