Anyone trying to gain weight? I'm a recovering anorexic and I am trying to gain weight but myfitnesspal doesn't seem supportive about it. Why does it act excited for you when you lose weight but not when you gain? Why does it let you lose 2 pounds a week (which according to your BMR *btw much more important than your BMI* is a starvation diet) but not gain 2 pounds a week? I told it I want to gain, why can't it be as happy for me as it is for every single friend of mine trying to lose weight? Come on myfitnesspal, I need your support too.

Are you asking for advice or are you asking to technical help. The 2 lbs per week gain is a limitation of the software I supposed. But you could easily set it to 1 lb per week an then eat another 1000 calories. The biggest problem is, the majority of people who use this app, are trying to lose weight. A smaller percentage is using it to maintain and even smaller... to gain. So from a business model, you put your money and time where the majority of your users are.0 -

To add, many people looking to gain weight want to do it slowly because they are not recovering from an ED. The "rules" are a little different for you, but you can force the program to do what you want. If you are working with a recovery team, I would suggest discussing with them what your calorie goal should be. If they don't have a specific calorie level and you would like to gain 2lbs per week, eat 1000 calories over what you need to maintain your weight.
Either way, you can manually change your calorie goal by going here and entering your daily calorie level: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/my_goals0 -
It's more along the lines of, "I set my goal to be a gain, so it should celebrate that gain when/if it happens." I would like to see a gain 2lbs but I know that I can override it, and I have. It's just that, for me it's discouraging when my losses are celebrated but my gains are ignored.
I think that if you set your goal to gain then the app should celebrate gains and ignore losses. It's a simple adjustment to the program really, and yet I know that mentally it could have a huge impact on others like me. It would be one thing if myfitnesspal only allowed loss and maintain, but they have a gain goal too, despite how pitiful it is. So it seems like an oversight, and a disappointing one at that.
However, I do love this app. I think it's wonderful as a tool and as a support system, since you have your friends beside you. I just think that it would be great if the myfitnesspal team could see this and maybe add the support we need as ED survivors, or body builders, or just simply trying to gain a few pounds.
Does that clear it up?0 -
Yep.. and since it's an app suggestion, I will move it to the correct forum.0

I apologize, I didn't realize that I hadn't put it in the right forum... But it's not exactly just a suggestion/feedback. I was wondering if anyone else was trying to gain weight and if they were as disappointed with the lack of encouragement the app has for people trying to gain.
Either way, I am a little more saddened by the lack of empathy towards my post, than I am about the lack of support from the app. It makes sense why the app isn't supportive of people trying to gain weight, since seemingly no one is supportive about my complaint.0 -
There's a Gain Weight forum on MPF. I saw lots of posts there. Good luck!0

The community is very supportive. There may not be popups when you complete your diary, but you should check out the below thread. Plenty of females looking for additional friends and support.
And since you want to add friends, I will move this back. Honestly, just trying to get this in the right forum.
