does anyone use a wii balance board to weigh themselves?

my husband and i have been using the wii balance board since using this site but today we both weighed ourselves using the mechanical scales at the gym we go to, according to those scales we are both about 5 pounds lighter than on the wii balance board scales. we tested it when we got back, i also got 3 slightly different readings within minutes of each other on the wii.
has anyone else experienced this? and should i adjust my weight on here according to the scales at the gym?

I have a Wii balance board as well. I would be interested to know the answer to this.0

I use the wii fit balance board to weigh myself and I know the number may not be exactly right, but I'm not so worried about the number as the consistency of using the same scale.0

Wii boards always give different readings ,all my friends say the same thing as well ,I just go by my normal scales .0

I only have the wii to weigh myself on at home so I tend to just weigh myself on that. You will have to decide which one you want to use, otherwise you are going to be getting conflicting results if you use two different types of weighing devices. I know when I have been to the GP their scale is 2lb less but I just stick to the wii.0

That is what I weigh on every week..yes it's not perfect but it certainly keeps track and helps me to know each week if I've lost or gained. I did have dr appointments last week & this week and it happened to be the same day as I weigh in. According to the dr's scale I am 1.6 pounds more than my wii says but both last week and this week it was that same amount of difference if that makes sense. So do I use it specifically for my weight, not really -more just to keep track of gain/lose. I have another scale in my house that I use once in awhile too but I don't like it cause it's not digital and varies a lot. So anyway..Yes I do use the wii. :happy:0

The Wii balance board has weighed me almost 10 lbs less than the regular scales on some days.0

I weigh everyday on the Wii BB. We have a digital scale as well and both always* give me the same weight.
*always meaning I had heard complaints that if you moved the board or it was uneven it would give you a different weight. I tried it and it did give me a different weight. So now the BB doesn't move.0 -

Me too, I actually put a 10kg weight on the scales at the gym and it came out at 11.7kg!!! I dont suppose the wii board is the most accurate scale but I agree its consistency and using the same scale, same time, same day, same clothes.0 -
I use mine to weigh myself. I don't care about the exact weight it reads (mine tends to read high) just the consistancy of it. The past 4 weeks I have been in range-nothing crazy high or low. I just make sure I weigh myself at the same time of the day in the same type of clothing each time.0

We don't have a wii, but have had several digital scales over the past few years. NONE are even close to the old-fashioned balance scale at the doctor's office... they always are off. The one we have now can be off each time within minutes of getting on the scale. I'll never buy a digital scale again. If you have space for a balance scale, that's the best way to go and they aren't that expensive once you compare spending money on digital scales. our church nurse has one and we just use that between doctor visits.0

My husband and I have used the Wii board and our own scales to weigh ourselves and they have been exactly the same. I always weigh myself at the same time of day. Occasionally, I have weighed myself twice in succession on the board and got a slightly different reading (1lb difference). I like using the Wii board as it records your measurements on the graph and as long as the line on the graph is going down, it's encouraging. I always have the occasional blip when it goes up, but I have been measuring myself for 18 months now and the trend is down, so I feel that I am achieving something. My son only weighs himself at the gym and he just calculates how much he has lost since his last measurement (23lbs so far - he's a star!). He says that it's confusing to use more than one set of scales. Good luck with the weight loss, however you measure it.0

you could have a difference on using different scales. use one unit for measuring and stick with that one for your weigh ins, then you know that it will be most accurate. And remember.. its just a number. How do you feel, use a tape measure for measurments.0

I have the wii board and I use it all the time to weigh myself.0

We gave a digital scale I use every other day. I use our Wii balance board to "officially weigh in" every week. I don't worry about the difference so much as a consistent loss. If one scale is 5 pounds lighter, it would have always weighed you 5 pounds lighter - the weight difference between when you started and now wouldn't have changed.0

thanks for your input everyone, i think i'm going to start using the gym scales once a week and see how i get on with those0

I prefer to use the wii BB for the same reasons many of the other users have. For one, I love to hear my mii grunt when I step on  (NOT!) I do like that it tracks it and shows me my progress and BMI. My husband is pretty sure that it weighs light compared to our digital one upstairs (the one that gives me a different reading every time that I step off and back on) My plan is to weigh on the BB tomorrow morning and then go to the gym and weigh in there to see how close they are. I say continue to weigh on the BB and pay more attention to how well your clothes are fitting to show you your progress. Good luck to you!! :flowerforyou:0

Make sure the balance board is on a flat surface and store it flat. From what I hear that is what gives you accurate readings. My Wii and regular digital scale seem to be about the same. No matter if scales differ, pick one for your official weigh ins. Even if one always reads 5 pounds higher, losing 3 pounds is losing 3 pounds.0

yeah true, my wii board is always in the same place give or take a centimetre or 2 for every weigh in and i always do it at roughly the same time before breakfast or drink and after the loo, i don't store it flat though, when we've finished with it, it goes back in its box and stands upright.
i will check it tomorrow or saturday and see what its saying then.
thanks again everyone0 -
I never use the wii balance board to weight myself anymore as it is the worse scale ever, always different on each reading and always 1-9lbs different to our digital home scales (which show the same weight as the one at our local doctors so I know it's spot on unlike the wii!)
Let's just say the wii balance board is not designed to weigh yourself with, that was a quick after thought when they designed it :laugh:0
