I don't know, as I've never paid attention to it. All it does is calculate based on that days total calorie deficit and everything else you have plugged in for statistics. If your standard statistics and logging have proven to be accurate in the past, and you ate at that deficit every day for 5 more weeks, it should work.0 -
I glance at it out of curiosity, but I don't take it as gospel. That number only reflects if you ate/exercised every single day the same way you did that one and is still just an estimate at that. My overall trend is down so I'm plenty happy with that.0

Ha, a little while ago I was wondering this exact same thing. So that night I plugged in to the calendar on my iPad the weight it said I would be in 5 weeks. Well that date is fast approaching - 2nd Nov. The weight it suggested was 59.1kg. I'm currently at 59.6kg so looking good.0

With my method of losing weight, it's not accurate at all lol.
It's still interesting however.0 -
I can't eat the same exact way every day for 5 weeks, so I have no way of knowing if it's accurate. But, it should be.0

Unless you eat approximately the same amount of calories everyday and do the same with exercise it won't be exactly that number.. However it shouldn't be more than 5 pounds off unless you've been consistently going over your calories by more than 5000

Actually, just your deficit would need to be the same...
But it is motivating, no? I like it. And on days I've gone over it shares a high number that gets me right back on track! Hahaha0 -
Why 5 weeks? Why not tell me how long at my current rates will it be until I hit my weight goal. If I see the number of days continue to decrease, I'd be happy. That's my focus after all.1

I would love to be able to change the "5" weeks to what ever time frame I want, like my birthday for example. Or whenever my next short term goal is.1

I'm not tracking my exercise, but I think it would be wrong anyway...
If I eat MY goal calories it suggests I'd put on 1.5kg in five weeks; but from the way I'm going I'd actually expect to lose that amount, if not more.0 -

Mine is up and down so much. Today I am 5lbs more than what it says, but 5 weeks ago tomorrow I ate a lot, so I will be 2 pounds more than tomorrow's prediction... Assuming my weigh in tomorrow is the same as today, which it often is, but you never know0

Well yep mine is spot on, 5 weeks and 1 day later. Smack bang on what it suggested 59.1kg. It was just fun to check it out this once, know it's not gospel.0

Mine is usually all over the place too, but it's handy for me to have the approximation to see, as its yet another small goal to reach. I treat it as the maximum I will hopefully lose in that time-frame, but I don't bother if I don't achieve it.0

On that particular day did you come in well below your daily calories? It's looking at a snapshot in time...that day only and how you logged for that day. If you eat more today or tomorrow, that number is going to be different every day. Your actual loss will be an average of all those days.0 -
Have been using MFP for 1 1/2 years and have never lost as much weight as it predicts.
Eating 1100-1300 calories a day and hitting the gym 3-4 days a week for an hour of fairly intense activity each time. Tracking accurately and consistantly! I think maybe my metabolism has slowed down, just because I am getting older.
But I am losing 2-4 lbs a month and am wearing smaller clothing. Still have at least 25-30 lbs. to go. Onward and forward.

That depends.
When i first started losing weight i set my calorie goal to ONE thing and i hit the calorie goal each and every day for about 4 months. It was SPOT ON.
However, i don't eat the same number of calories every day now and therefore it won't be accurate. Some days i eat more, some days less, etc.
It's just an equation, so it's only going to be as accurate as you make it.0 -
I'm sure for some people it is correct but the human body isn't nicely predictable I think he same way a computer algorithm is so I would hate for anyone to get hung up on that figure. My weight fluctuates wildly day to day so I look at the overall trend. I also never complete my diary because I don't need or want to see that screen and I take a weekly rather than daily view of my calorie intake.0

It always gives me a number 3-10 pounds below my goal weight.
I think that if I had a healthy/normal body, the prediction would probably be accurate.0
