Heart palpitations still 3 days later after high dose of caffeine

When hubby was getting used to his puffers for asthma, he overdosed one day, taking a dozen of one puffer in the course of a few hours. He got an incurable case of the hiccups that took three visits to the emergency over the weekend until he got relief. Lesson learned.
Know what you're taking, don't overdose.
I think your medical care team, @jennifer8989 , is taking care of the most obvious symptoms first. Maybe get your blood sugar checked too. Uncontrolled diabetes comes with uncontrolled thirst.0 -
caffeine is bad... it really is..... bad...water water water....0

The half life of caffeine is 4 -6 hours. Depending on the amount ingested at a one time dose or given subsequent doses there after, I presume that you may have some toxicity still in your blood and maybe your liver. Also if you have taken caffeine on a regular basis and just stopped, you may have been detoxing from caffeine for the past several days.
Instead of just drinking the water, may drink some Pedialight, or gatorade (something like this with no caffeine). The is can help with balancing out the electrolytes, sodium, etc.. instead of just watering down your body with water.0 -
Jennifer, make sure you see a cardiologist, not just a family doctor0

@gia07 your totally correct the doctor did suggest Gatorade along with water .0

A cardiologist is my next bet if this doesn't subside .:/0

Thank you all for your help, advice and experiences. I truly appreciate it . ❤️0

Well it's now been 9 days since I've took the preworkout . I have done what the doctor said since Friday I've drank 3 gallons of water and 2 Gatorade bottles .....
Drinking Gatorade helped me feel better . The last two days I wasn't having spikes. I'll get up walk around the highest I got was 111 and 109 . I was able to see an improvement I even went to a few stores walked around perfectly fine .today no Gatorade really I drank the last bit I had but still drinking water . Not overdoing it though my urine is clear .
The spikes started 120,s 130,s sometimes 140,s . I also notice when my heart rate is higher like my chest feel tense you know like the muscles are achy on my right side near my breast it radiates in form of like an n to the center right .
My abdomen upper mid area feels full almost causing me to feel shortness of breath even light headed at times . Again this all started after the preworkout. The muscles aches maybe a day before I remember really being stressed out . I'm not sure if these are bouts of anxiety or what . I'm calm yet paranoid in my mind at the same time so I can't tell . I called my doctors again today told them it's still happening I have to go in for a second follow up ! Just to then be referred to a cardiologist . I'm wondering if an ingredient from the preworkout caused something to go out of wack . ?
No it's not a heart attack I've been tested twice in many ways for that as well as clots thyroids Gloucese
I'll I've got was sinus tachycardia with no real cause that it should go away on its own .
Please if anyone out there has a similar experience please share .❤️0 -
I wasn't clear all symptoms started after the preworkout except the achy muscle im honestly not sure if it would even be related .0

Since you started to feel better with the Gatorade, perhaps have a few more. Or you could switch to Gastrolyte in water which tastes nasty but it doesn't have the added sugar. Sorry, that's all I've got today.0
-
have you seen a cardiologist yet?0
-
Thank you ! Were would I be able to purchase it .?0
-
I have to follow up again with the doctor in order to be referred . Nov 5 I'll be seeing my doctor .0
-
I pick up Gastrolyte, which is a powder packet, at my local pharmacy.0

Great thanks so much !0

The only time I ever had dry mouth like that was when I was pregnant with my 2nd. I'd drink a gallon of water by noon. I tested negative for gestational diabetes but then my baby was exceptionally large and had problems regulating insulin when first born...if you think something isn't right make sure to be an advocate for yourself.0

I'm sure something isn't right I will keep going until I get my way I know that caffeine dosage must of threw something off made something go hay wire for sure . I've had my heart checked through ultrasound a few years ago everything was great and healthy I say around 2012-2013 . Also all recent test have been normal twice . To me it sounds like something somewhere is out of wack and is causing this episode of what they call sinus tachycardia .0

Dehydration can cause palpitations, so that might have been a good answer and not a brush-off at all. Low blood pressure can cause them, too.
Do you ever get migraines in your medical history (I mean, not just now)? That was part of why they figured my case of this was just a minor autonomic nervous system problem. Do you sweat more during exertion? That was a another thing.
Your rates are lower than mine, so try not to worry as it gets checked out If they put you on medicine, that will definitely fix the high rate, so the symptom is very fixable at least.0 -
Internet is not helping came across (pots) I'm terrified literally having a mental break down this is such a terrible feeling . I'm terrified of having to take meds to regulate my heart for the rest of my life0

Do your best not to worry too much before you know. I had to take diabetes medication for over a decade. We have to eat and drink every day, and brush our teeth daily. If you do end up taking a pill daily it's not the end of the world.0

I am extremely sensitive to caffeine. I have atrial fibrillation and coffee will cause me to have to take a trip to the hospital.0
-
At this point, it's not the caffeine that's causing you problems OP. You're probably just over thinking it and causing yourself panic attacks lol. Just..chill.0

Aw! No, I don't even have POTS and I do apparently have an ANS glitch. Yours may be a spell of something, so even if you did have to go on a medicine, you might not have to stay on it. Mine's the same medicine they had me try for a month first for migraines, so I know it's safe to just trial (if your doc says so, obviously).
I swear even if it keeps up (which it certainly might not) it's not a big deal. I promise Palpitations actually don't cause problems; they just can feel that way because they feel so strange! Your pulse isn't very high. If you have anything, you don't have it badly.0 -
Thanks so much ❤️ I'll keep you guys posted0

So I just got back from my second follow up . They told me everything I was experiencing was normal.
Showering ,cleaning , walking around , taking stairs are all normal reasons for your heart rate to go up over 100 and even into the 120 130 . But tachycardia is more when your resting and your heart rate shoots over 100 or your sitting down and your heart rates goes into the 160's for example . I was told to look out for things like that . Other than that everything looks good and I got the okay to back to the gym !:D0 -
Awesome! I'm glad you checked back in0
