So I started my diet last week. I've been really handling the new calorie intake well. I went from about 3000-8000. To 1270. I Haven't eaten healthy in ages and this time i am making sure not just to maintain calories but to hit all areas of food groups . Since this diet I have experienced Dizziness in the morning and at night. It's very concerning to me. I am more healthy now than ever before. I use to load up on carbs, sugars and just junk foods. So why is this happening? I don't feel like I am starving myself either. I don't have any medical problems. Even when I ate badly I had good blood results etc. Does anyone know why this may be happening?

What is your height/weight. Going down to 1200 is probably way to extreme. Try a more moderate deficit, at least at first.

Hmm. Does this happen at a certain time? Are you lying down or standing up?

I notice it when I wake up and when I come home from school around 6pm. It will last all night. Feels like i am just very very hyper aware and unbalanced

How could you have been eating 3,000-8,000 calories and only weigh 150 - are you intensely active?

No idea, I've always had a poor diet but good metabolism. I only started gaining and keeping the weight 2 years ago. Before I was about 130

    How active are you?

I'm fairly active and 5'4. I've lost the majority of my weight eating 1800 - 2000 calories (sometimes more/sometimes less). I did 2 weeks eating no more than 1400 calories back in Dec when I was about your weight just to see if I could lose a bit faster and it made me miserable. I was light headed a lot, started getting sluggish, and by the end of week 2 was a complete b.

Hmm - maybe try setting your weight loss to .5 lbs a week. You're not very overweight so you can probably lose weight more slowly. Also, if you are only 148 and eating that much you should lose weight pretty easily. It seems like your calculations might be off though...were you tracking before? 8000 calories is a lot of food, you would probably be obese.

That's really interesting. I wonder if it's honestly related to cutting back . I thought I would feel so much more active. My current activity level is pretty sedentary. I get up, catch a bus and a train and walk to school. Then I go home. I also feel sluggish :/

I would say to slow down for a little while and eat more at first, to acclimate your body to less food. I know if I went down from so much to so little, I'd be dizzy too.

I'm beginning to think so as well. I thought as long as I fought off hunger I'd do great but my body had other ideas :(

I added in here what I use to eat in a hungry day and it hit 7780. Lots of pastas and Starbucks and nonsense :/ usually it was around 3 or 5000.

    Do you have a smartphone?
If so maybe download a pedometer app to figure out how active you are. You might find that you are more active than you think. If you take at least 5000 steps in a day, then you should probably be set to Lightly Active. If you get around 10k steps, then you should probably be set to Active.

1270m calories is probably far to low for someone as active as you are. You may be underestimating your activity level. Not eating enough can cause dizziness, exhaustion, trouble focusing, and other issues. Basically your body is telling you that it does not have enough energy to keep up with the activity as well as basic functioning. You probably ought to reconsider the size of your deficit and eat more.

Sounds like your body is in kind of a "shock and awe" stage. Maybe bump up calories in real food and see if you feel better. Even 300 calories more of fruits, veggies, protein, etc., would probably help give you the energy you need.

I did feel a bit "fuzzy" when I first started my diet. It's gone away.

Low sodium. Get some Himalayan sea salt, and pack into capsules. Take several a day.

There is no way we can diagnose you. Call the doctor about the dizziness and try eating more until you get there.

Have your thyroid check, you could have a hyperthyroid. I get dizziness, especially when going from sitting to standing. I have hypothyroidism, but after losing 55 pounds, I became over medicated and now I'm hyper. You should get checked out to make sure it's not some kind of medical issue.

How do you know how much you are eating?
Are you weighing all your solids with a digital scale, liquids with liquid measuring cups and spoons?
    If not start doing so.
You may find it advantageous to lower your calories slowly, a couple of hundred cals a day for a week then drop again the next week until you are at the deficit goal MFP set you. this is a much easier approach, both mentally and physically, especially if you were eating the calories you stated.

If the dizziness persists you should see a doctor.

    Cheers, h.

But if it was me I'd wonder about p dehydration or lack of nutritional balance and I'd drink something sweet to see if that makes me feel better

That happens when someone has no idea what they are eating and just makes the numbers up.

    Y'know. .. "estimating", right?

I feel sluggish when my anemia is untreated. You may have reduced calories too drastically. Try setting your weight loss goals to 0.5 pound per week, use a digital food scale, and make an appointment with your doctor.

Dehydration was my guess too. Maybe an electrolyte imbalance caused by the quick drop of carbs and prob a large drop in salt intake too. This imbalance can cause low blood volume over time.

Your stats are off. No way you were doing this with your weight.
