I went and cut my hair off and donated it to Locks of Love. Because of my donation, the salon cut my hair for free. I tried to pay, insisted on it, but they wouldn't here it.

That's awesome! I've always wanted to do LoL, but my hair takes too long to grow out!

That's awesome! I did it once years ago, but I haven't had the patience to grow it back out since then :D Your new cut looks fantastic!

Good for you!! :-) I've donated twice, and when it gets long enough I'll be doing it again!
  • That's awesome! I've done it four times but now I keep my hair too short to do that! I like your hair better short!

Love the new hair cut. I have done it 3 times now. My oldest daughter did it once, and my youngest daughter did it twice.

Awesome! Your new cut looks great! I did it once and it was a great feeling--a fresh new look, and helping out a great cause all at once!

So awesome! I've done it a few times too. Been thinking of doing again soon, just have to figure out what length I want my shorter hair to be at.

The new cut looks nice on you and knowing you've helped someone else out is a great feeling too. :flowerforyou:

I found out about this too late. It was after I had my waist length hair cut off. Shame on the salon for not suggesting it.

I love it - you look cute with short hair. I am doing the opposite. My hair is short and I thought since this weight loss journey will take a year or more Id try to grow mine out and see a major difference in my appearance. But props to you for such a selfless act. :)

I just cut mine for Locks of Love for the fourth or fifth time and I don't think I've ever gotten a free haircut out of the deal! But I do get the thank you postcards, and the satisfaction of knowing that my ridiculous ability to grow long hair is going to help a girl feel a little bit better about herself at such a hard time.

I did that a few years ago. It was so long I was sitting on it. My hair was too thick to put in one ponytail and cut, so she had to make 2 ponytails. I donated two 15 inch long ponytails. Hopefully it helped someone out. I also lost 5 pounds just by cutting off all that hair.

Good job!! Lock of love is a great charity.:flowerforyou:

I'm ashamed to admit I'm emotionally attached to my hair and it would kill for me to cut it.. but I commend you for doing something so awesome. My friend here, laughingdani as also done it before. I really admire those who do.

    Thanks Chrissy! :flowerforyou:

Yes, I have donated many times. Each time donating 13-14 inches.
I think it is such a great thing to do if you are willing and able. Luckily, I am one of those rare people that has hair that grows extremely fast. So, it doesn't take me long to grow it all out again and then cut it off.

Congrats!!! You did an awesome thing!

I'd never heard of Locks of Love before (I'm in the UK) so I've just googled it....and all I can say is Well done you and everyone else doing this. A very worthy cause!

And the shorter hair definitely suits you!

It's admirable that you've donated your hair for a worthy cause, and your new cut looks great!

But for those of you thinking of donating your hair in the future, please consider donating to a different charity. Locks of Love has a very bad reputation amongst those of us with long hair. Their claims of donating wigs for cancer kids are not accurate. They charge most of the families for the wigs, and they sell a lot of the hair that is donated.

There are several other, more deserving charities out there that actually provide free wigs for people with cancer. Please research some of those before you donate to Locks of Love.

Didn't mean to rain on your parade OP. I just hate how LOL lies about their charity.

BBB shows them as a reputable charity for 2010 - Hopefully they are on the up and up by now.
Your heart was in the right place.
