Gaining weight?

I've started my diet yesterday and I'm trying to lose weight. I was a bit under my calory limit last night and I was happy about that, but when I woke up and weighed myself just now I found out I gained 2kg! Just over one day and night of eating less! What's happening?

Natural weight fluctuation or water retention.
You didn't seriously expect results after ONE DAY, did you?0 -
If you are going to be weighing yourself daily, expect fluctuations. This is totally, totally normal.
Don't panic - You haven't gained weight. Especially after one day.
As you are new to this, I'd really suggest weighing in once a week. Always on the same day and the same scale (at the same time!).0 -
I am shocked at the amount of posts just like this one. Are people serious? It takes time, patience and discipline to lose weight. You will not get instant gratification. Weight fluctuates... Come on, people. Use your brain, or google or something.0

You haven't lost weight after a period of maybe 12 hours and you're panicking? In the nicest possible way, if this is your expectation level you're in for a bad time. Water retention, higher volume of food (not necessarily higher calories), constipation, time of the month, higher liquid intake and many other things can all make the scale increase. You will be heavier at night than in the morning too for the most part.
So calm down and see where you are in 6 weeks, not 6 hours!0 -

Your weight will fluctuate by about 2-4Kg over the month naturally anyway - you have a weight range not a weight - your water weight changes with exercise, sodium, carbs, hormones, time of day etc it is irrelevant as it's not fat
you can only judge weight loss by averaging over time - over 6-8 weeks

I didn't expect my weight to be less at all. I didn't expect it to be more either. I didn't know about fluctuation. I haven't been on a scale in 7 years (since I was 14) because I'm always scared of what I see, so I don't have a sense of what's normal. The difference between 72kg and 74kg seems a lot, but if that's a normal thing I'll take it. Just hoping I can bring it down to 50kg over the span of a few years.0

If it only took a day, we'd all be thin. Patience is key here.0

look for trends if you are weighing every day. not at the numbers individually.0

This is it. Besides, if I were you, I wouldn't weigh everyday. Weigh once a week, at the same time of the day, right after using the bathroom and naked. This way you can see a long term trend.0
