Let's see if I remembered how to do this right. LOL So, this is what I'm working on right now. All that high "grass" is zoysia that I've been battling for over 5 years. Finally, I know what to do and digging is the first step. Then it'll be some high grade yard cloth, then construction sand topped with gravel (much of which I'm trying to save from previous attempts).

Once I dig out a section, I load up the wheelbarrow and walk it half a block (ever walk a FULL wheelbarrow half a block in 102? Whew! Hats off to all construction and related workers!!!) to an empty lot to contribute to their dirt & grass so they can try to sell the property. They just tore down a steak & shake that had been standing empty due to a major fire for at least 10 years. FINALLY! I'm not giving them my trash... just grass and dirt I don't want. :-)

I'll post a few more pics momentarily. I just want to make sure I don't have to edit my code first. hehehe.

Okay.. nope.. they'll be following. hahahaha! Sorry...

    No problem. I don't envy you doing all that work in 102 degree weather. You should burn lots and lots of calories though. :smile:

    I enjoy it... but it is tiring. Fortunately, we have a little pool that also requires daily maintenance (too small for filters), so I'll get in there and spend a little time cleaning it and cool off. :-)

    I Love my Coy Koi. :-)

    As you all can see, I still have ALOT of work to do. Where my gargoyle is (that you couldn't see earlier for all the zoysia), that's where my siamese is buried. She loved to drink out of the pond. She never bothered the fish. They had an understanding. I still miss her terribly. Something special will go around her grave site.

    No callouses yet. I wear gloves religiously. I'm horridly allergic to grass and I get these stinging abrasions all up and down my arms if I'm not careful. No way could I tolerate that all over my hands. Plus, the ants get PISSED and WILL bite in retaliation for being disturbed. It's amazing how much little black ants can hurt!

    Carl - wanna bring over some of that heavy equipment of yours and help a girl out? **blinks innocently**

    Kity: I don't think it got that bad today. Maybe 97 or 98. It might storm here in a while. Supposed to drop into the mid-80's for the weekend. hahahahahaha!!

    The plan is to dig everything out anywhere from 3-6" (depends on where I'm digging), then we'll lay down some heavy duty yard cloth, shove in some metal edging as just an extra barrier between tiers and the sidewalk weeds and the 1st tier, then we'll put down 2"-3" of construction sand, then 2"-3" of landscaping pebble - and spray like crazy where we can (not near the pond). All plants will stay in containers. In a year or two when we're SURE the zoysia and weeds are managed, then we can figure out what we want to do to plant in-ground again.

    The purple concrete slab porch will eventually get built out into a hexagonal-styled deck. In the last pic, where you see the bench? The deck will have a bench extension and that thing will either go completely or get moved somewhere more appropriate. I wish I could draw really good picture and put it up but... I kinda' suck at that sort of thing.

    You'll have to post updates as you go along. I wish I had my own yard to decorate but I live in an apartment so I can't. I can't really have plants because it's so shady and I don't think they'd get enough sun. Love you koi pond. So sorry about your kitty. When I lost my first cat after I moved to Washington State I cried myself to sleep for a few weeks.

    You can do some amazing things with container gardening. I read somewhere of someone using old gutters because the ground was so hard or sandy or something that it was completely stripped of nutrients. I know, it's not the same as planting in a yard, but you don't have to battle unwanteds nearly as much either and if you're on a 2nd floor or higher, fewer bugs.

    Believe it or not, we'll be container gardening in our own yard for a while just because of the unwanteds. That's the whole point. **sighs**
