Losing for cruising? Anyone?

Options
Just booked a November 2016 cruise, honestly I have to say a big reason for booking was to motivate myself to get this weight off. Anyone else trying to lose for a cruise or special 2016 event? I would love to support each other. I'm 222 lbs and 5' 4" so I have a long way to go. If I could lose 1.5 lbs a week I would be ecstatic! Would love to support and encourage anyone too.

I don't have a cruise, but my goal in 2017 is to hike to the summit of Kilimanjaro, so I definitely have a big event I'm looking to lose weight (and train) for.

Leaving tomorrow, just a short one though, down the west coast Vancouver to LA.
Losing for a cruise is great inspiration. Set a realistic weight range and fitness goal.
If you can do some cardio, you may be doing lots of walking at your ports of call. Also weight training is great for reshaping your body, as well as being able to cope with suitcases, and take on thrilling adventures.

    Cheers, h.

    @rankinsect, I always wanted to do K2.
Right now, I am happy aboard a cruise ship, with friends, waiting to set sail.
    I always like your posts.

I'm currently losing for a trip to Florida in Feb. 2016. I started at 222.2 and I hope to be somewhere in the 168 range by my trip.

That sounds like a great motivator. Creating a deadline that's a reward in of itself or not you meet your goal! What a fantastic idea :)

@Lonasue32 it was a real booze & food 4 nighter down the west coast, then a drunken 3 nights in Hermosa Beach LA.
It was great, but I can only manage a week of living like that!
Lost .2lb, hahaha. That was a surprise as we are and drank with true abandon.

    Cheers, h.

ETA: just started strength training for the 14 nighter in April. This will be more active; hiking, swimming, snorkelling, zip lining, etc, and less booze and food. Though we did get a free drink package thrown in. (Trouble calling with that B) )

@keepitupmfp don't let the food stress you. You have lost your weight and learnt how to eat and your portion sizes. Trust yourself, but also treat yourself.
There are plenty of salads in the buffet and main dining room. You can also check the evening menu early in the day then plan the rest if the day around what you want for dinner. If a meal sounds good but is heavily sauced ask for it on the side, or to be omitted completely. I find on the first day I go crazy with all the offerings, but by the 3rd day I am happy eating my regular portion sizes.
Christmas and New Year cruises are great. Where are you going? Which ship?
    Have fun, h.

Belize, Cozemel, Isla Roatan.. never been on this cruise. Lost my butt in the casino on last cruise and suddenly won the xmas cruise. So this is our first Christmas cruise. I do try to watch my portions and can't eat bread (celiac) so that helps but the food is so good!!

@keepitupmfp ooh they are ports I have never been to either.
I love a bit of a warm break in winter. I think if you live in the north it does a person a world if good; replenishes all the sunshine vitamins.

I'm going on my first cruise in March and am super excited! I want to lose 25lbs before then, but we will see what happens.

@Saraness, that is really exciting. I have only done seven, so not jaded at all, but I so remember the excitement and wonder when I boarded my first cruise ship. I hope it never wears off.

It is great to aim for 25lb, but don't be perturbed if you are a few short. No one on the ahip will worry.

If you are wanting to look good in a swimsuit, or doing adventurous things in port, think of doing some strength training. It will prepare you for the above, improve your bone density, retain your muscle mass while losing, and help reshape your body.

    Cheers, h.

I've already dropped 50lbs for my cruise, hoping to knock off 15 more before January 23.

I'm going on a cruise late February 2016. My goal is to lose 2-2.5# a WK till then. I'm hoping to find encouragement and more motivation for those days that I'm dragging. I have 2 young children, one of which is disabled, so I'm trying hard to find that extra energy for working out. Starting wt.#232 .
