Help!! It's a lemonade stand emergency!!!

So...we decided to let my 8 year old do a lemonade stand in our teeny tiny town...my kiddo is truly a health nut and I really think she will be a nutritionist or trainer someday, anyway it was HER idea to have some healthy but yummy snacks available too and we are going to have a splenda or truvia lemonade along with her other lemonade.
The thing is, for the first time ever there is another lemonade stand in town!!! I've lived here my whole life and never has there been one, what are the chances?? The other stand is called 'Cupcake Kids' and they have store bought lemonade for a quarter in tiny cups and cupcakes and sweets.
Here's where I need your advice...we have super big cool cups and straws and ours will be handmade from scratchola like in the old days (we are using martha stewarts recipe). I was thinking 50 cents was a good price and then this stand that is about 20 feet away is only charging .25 for a tiny cup. The whole purpose of this thing is to help my daughter with money and it's something she's always wanted to do but I never considered 'lemonade stand competition'. What do you think we should charge for better/healthier option/bigger lemonade?
Also, does anyone know of any healthy snacks that would do well in the Oklahoma heat? I was thinking about making granola and putting it in super cute little bags but I don't know what else...I'd like something lemony Thank you for reading this and for any advice!!

What about homemade lemon bars made with unprocessed flour and splenda?
Air Popped popcorn with no added salt or butter?
Trail Mix without the M&M's?0 -
I think 50 cents is very reasonable! Make sure you have a big sign that clearly says, "fresh squeezed and large serving".0

Oatmeal cookies? Healthy muffins? Fruit?0

I think homemade granola snack would be perfect in OK heat! That's where I am and I make that sometimes for my kids when they are outside a lot during the day, it doesn't go bad when in the heat which is why I love it -- not to mention you can put so much variety in it to make it how your kids like it! Best of luck to your daughters lemonade stand!!0

Or...serve your bigger cups at 25cents until you eliminate the competition, then raise the price little by little until you're back to where you wanted to be. It sounds so cut throat! Geez!0

how about frozen lemonade...like lemonade slushies...just add ice and mix the food processor or blender...As for the snacks...how about a healthy trail mix...or rice crispy's but make them in smaller portions...you know like the size of the 100 calories ones...or some poporn but they can add various seasonings....good luck can't wait to hear how it turned out!!0

As a marketing type thingy, brand integrity is everything!!! you must exploit your unique selling points, ie. HEALTHY drinks and snacks and add a little something 'extra' to keep them coming back for seconds and third helpings...a BIG sign saying old fashioned HOME MADE lemonade, secret ingredient to the old traditional recipe in addition to fresh lemons and the greatest stuff on earth is LOVE!!
ice cubes with shredded lemon rind might be a nice touch in the heat, no extra cost to you as it's a by product of REAL lemons!
or something like that!!0 -
It's all about appearance if you want people to stop. If your little one's stand looks like she put in all heart and soul and is more appealing looking, she will get the business! Go get em!0

This. Or maybe a sign that says "MADE FROM SCRATCH LEMONADE." I would rather have freshly squeezed, then store bought, any day!! Good luck!0 -
How about frozen grapes for a snack? there really good and you could put them in bags or use them as ice cubes only 1 ingredient too!0

I'm here in OKC and lemonade and a healthy granola/trail mix sounds awesome, and would still be awesome when it gets to 240 degrees outside this afternoon!
Good luck!!!0 -
Just read the frozen grape idea and LOVE it!!! You could also do frozen bananas. One of my favorite OK summer treats as a kid.0

I agree...make sure you make a big sign that says fresh squeezed and home made, healthy.
Good luck to your little girl and her business!0 -
trail mix and granola sounds yummy, if you have a decent size cooler, and have the time also try making some lemony popscile smoothies, freeze them, and have them in a cooler, for a sweet cold treat maybe try to find a lemon poppy seed cake recipe you can modify with less sugar, make mini ones and put in a sack of 4. maybe 75 cents for the other things and keep the lemonade at 50. and do big signs and couldnt hurt to tape a few spare cups to the signs so people know they get more for their money! i live in oklahoma too so i know how hot it gets!!!0

I think 50 cents is very reasonable for the larger cups. This could be a good lesson for her to learn about maintaining integrity to her conviction to use Healthy ingredients only. She could use a comparison poster "us --> store bought, loaded with preservatives v. ME ---> fresh squeezed lemons, sugar in the raw, fresh mint leaf (whatever the recipe is). You may want to display actual lemons as part of the marketing. You could add optional frozen berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) and fresh mint leaves. I assume you are trying to keep things simple however, she may want to freeze some lemonade so when the ice melts it doesn't diluted the taste.0
