I drink, I limit it to the weekend and holidays mostly.
Only once in a while do I have a drink or a beer during the week, very rare.
Weekends however are usually a large party. Such is my life
I remember going to a seminar in college and a few indicators of a problem are:
Waking up drunk/hung over
Blacking out
Drinking multiple nights a week
Drinking more than 6 drinks in a day
Craving a drink during the day
Requiring a drink
Making room in your schedule for a drink
Obviously some of these are pretty basic.
Most people I know drink more than 6 and are fine.
Also Ive blacked out and known people who black out, it doesnt happen regularly.
I think you need to be the judge for yourself, frequency is a key here.
If you black out or get drunk several times over the course of a week, on a weekly basis, it could raise a red flag.0 -
Blacking out goes way beyond "functional alcoholism."0

Blacking out, whether it is once a week or once a month is an idication that you have a problem. Anytime you have had enough that you are blacking out means you are drinking to much.0 -
thank you everyone for sharing words on this issue.
bottom line is:
i guess i am an alcoholic mainly cause i am never satisfied w/ just 1 ten oz glass of wine!
i've never said that about myself before.
i need to use the strength i have in myself to control my drinking and eating.

Isn't admitting a problem the first step to recovery?? (((HUGS)))
And if you've gone 2 days without drinking already, let's see how far we can take it!0 -
Don't think you have to do this alone. AA has helped many. There is also a program called Celebrate Recovery. It is a Christian based 12 step program. You could check with churches in your area to see if anyone is offering it. I have heard good things about it. You can check it out at celebraterecovery.comthank you everyone for sharing words on this issue.

And there are many here on MFP that will support you and encourage you.
