OK... So I'm male, currently weigh about 172 and i am 5'11. On july 15th i wweighed 235. So ive dropped over 60 pounds in about 6 months.

Basically I run 3 miles every day, and every other day, in addition to running, I also do about 45 minutes of weight lifting.

My diet has been pretty bad... I mean it worked but i realize it was, and still is unhealthy... basically i eat less than 1000 calories a day and sometimes less, and have been since July... i basically only eat veges, fruit, and lean chicken but basically eat one meal a day. I consume a decent amount of alcohol, basically binge drink thursday friday saturday but that hasnt really hurt my diet. Also about twice a week ill eat ****ty food like chinese or pizza, but limit it.

My question is - where do i go from here? Obviously I cant eat like this forever. I plan on working out the same like this for a while.... but if i go back to eating like a normal person but still eating healthy will I put the weight back on? Like if i go back to eating 3 meals of normal food like still alot of veges and lean meats, but some meals of pasta and beef and what not will i start to put the weight back on?

I know people are gona say that im a nut case but im really wondering, and im scared to up my calorie intake because WHY would i want to gain the weight back ya know.

Any input would be GREAT! Thanks..

I think that you may put on a few pounds while your body first adjusts to the new regimen, but once you get into a schedule of eating enough calories consistently, you should take those pounds off plus any additional ones that you'd like to lose. Just make sure that you eat the number of calories that MFP suggests for you...log (and eat!) your exercise calories, and drink your water.

I think that instead of just focusing on your eating habits you need to focus on your drinking habits. I know binge drinker's tend to not see themselves as having an issue with alcohol, but it seems with both your diet and your drinking you go to extremes.

You need to find more of a balance overall. More meals, less drinking. Your ultimate goal is to be healthy and I am sure to look good. Losing weight, but killing your liver from alcohol or stressing your heart from intense excercise without enough nutrition I wouldn't suspect is your goal. maybe I'm wrong.

Sorry if anything I said offends you. Just wanted to help.

You need to figure out what "eating like a normal person" means.... If you think it means you will eat just the same as before you started all this, then yes - you are correct. If your diet and eating habits were what you consider to be "normal" before and you were overweight, then obviously you will gain that weight back!

So - try going back to step one, where we all started. Follow your suggested calorie goal and your guidelines for fat, protein, carbs, fiber, etc - When you figure out the kind of foods that fall into those categories that you are comfortable with eating, then you will be just fine.

And hey! Congrats on losing all those pounds.... and Congrats on making exercise a habit! You've already got half the battle won with that alone if you can keep it up!

(and yea.... I agree with CKMama, getting your drinking habits under control is fantastic idea)

Well you already answered your own you question. You can't eat and live like that forever.
You might want to up your calories gradually. Eating 1000 calories and less is not healthy and you are doing your body more harm then good.
My best advise for you is up your calories gradually and start incorporating more different foods into your diet.
You might see a gain but might not you might only get a plateau. But I think you might as well change now rather then later.
Remember losing weight is not about not eating it's about portion control.
    Good luck:flowerforyou:

  • I think your weight loss is phenomenal, and your mindset to have a continuous workout is great but the lack of calories can have an effect on your system and may eventually catch up with you and knock you on your butt.....I've read stories about people dieting to the death....and eventually having to be fed thru tubes to get the nutrients they needed for their body to stay healthy....i don't want to see you get to that point....i think your direction for weight loss is from a scale of 1-10 its at a 7....you are doing fine because your working out...not many dieters can say they have the workout part down....but you could be an easy 10 if you simply ate a few more calories...even a simple low fat cereal or oatmeal in the morning, maybe a few low calorie snacks throughout your day will be good, i don't think you will gain a crap load of weight back...especially not right away...i think you'll even out...just keep working out and let us know if you need any more advice :-) we are a community here to help you! and US and the same time!
hope this lightened your day a bit talk again soon, Lawanda

Your exercise is great, your basic food choices are fine and an occasional pizza or chinese is not going to hurt you: especially at your age. 1000 calories a day for your hieght, weight and gender is just too low. Add in breakfast, and some snacks throughout the day. However, binge drinking 3 to 4 nights a week is a recipe for disaster. Have you been counting the calories that are in what you are drinking? I'd bet that your actual calorie intake when you add those in is MUCH more extensive than 1000 a day. An ounce of alcohol has on average about 100 calories. So, if you are drinking 4 drinks a night and add those 400 calories into your journal...you'll find out what your real intake is. My bet is that your "binge" drinking is probably much more than just 4 a night. You could actually be getting about 40% of your caloric intake from alcohol which has no nutritional value whatsoever.

If you cut out a few drinks every day then you'll easily have enough calories left over to add nutritional food choices for breakfast, lunch and some snacks, still be able to support going out for pizza and chinese, and still be able to have a few drinks with your friends. And, you won't gain weight.

If you think about it....it's a minor change. Substitute some nutrition for the alcohol. Not saying give it up altogether...just cut back a little.

You are admitting to binge drinking 3 nights out of the week. How many drinks a night do you have?
If you want to be healthy I would seriously look at your unhealthy habit of binge drinking. The damage you are doing to your body. Combined with the low nutrients you are getting from eating such a low calorie diet are going to make you so sick you won't have to worry about exercise.

And like lessertess said. You can probably change out the alcohol calories to real food calories. You might gain some at first but at least it would be from giving your body the foods that it needs.
