So Food does not make me FAT, Booze and Hyperthyroidism that was "fixed" via radioactive iodine has made me fat. That and I have alot of pain I smile away. (or at least try to)

Is there any hope ????

Yup! I would rather give up food than wine/beer, and I've managed to lose without giving up any of the things I love. Feel free to add me, and best of luck!

ummm I have had eating disorders my entire life, I have a "mother" that "raised" me hoping she is alive to see me ruined (her words). A twin (hooch) sister I havent talked to in YRS! A father for a puppet ( they r still married eww!) one bottle is not nearly enough, I hate wine lol

MMmmMMM I love me some liquor and beer!

I can have a 12pack all to myself in one night. (Preferrably Bud Light)

  • I feel ya and yes there is PLENTY of hope. Beer and Liquor def helped me get in the position I'm in, lol.... food as well though. I was an all around love to eat/love to drink live it up person for a while but things turned into depression for me and I just want to be happy now. I've already decided that when I feel like drinking I'm going to do it but I'm also going to make sure I work out enough to help off set it so I don't feel like I'm just messing myself up. Don't take away the things you love! I think just be conscience of everything you consume. :) Feel free to add me if you want a friend to talk to. I think the trick to losing weight and truly being happy with yourself is to embrace everything even the bad crap that has come into our lives (for me at least). You made it through, your still here and you almost conquered.... just keep telling yourself I'm worth better and the crap isn't going to define me. If my mother was like that I'd love to just stick it to her and let her watch me turn into someone who is very happy with themselves. :)
  • I never had a weight issue until I discovered beer! I probably gained 15 pounds my 1st year in college because of it. I still like it though, just in moderation and now I drink MGD 64 if I'm drinkng beer.

my drink of choice used to be sex on the beach...now I drink Captain and diet!! It used to take me 7-8 to get a good buzz...now it only takes me 4!! Gotta love weightloss! LOL

you can def lose weight AND still enjoy your drinks! Just try to find lower cal options (light beer, vodka and diet, rum and diet, and champagne are the lowest that I have found)! and try spacing em out with some waters if you wanna save some cals too!

you can for sure do this!

I totally understand what you are saying and I feel for you also. Having a terrible childhood tends to leave one with some issues in adulthood. That being said I think that booze in moderation is fine if you are not suffering from a medical or psychological problem that would contraindicate it. I have read on some websites that one absolutely can NOT drink and lose weight, but I have done it, it is just harder. The bigger rub is why not look at abstinence for a while to see how we feel abstinent. If I actually feel better abstinent, then maybe I should just quit totally. If I want to stop and can't, then I need help.

There is always hope. I have found that exercise really makes one feel better, and sometimes the drinking just falls into place when one gets into a good routine. I remember when I would drink in college I would go out with my friends and eat lots of fatty food. Sort of the munchies with booze. That's when the weight really got packed on. It also seems like any "diet" we are on falls by the wayside with booze.

I am much older than you, and have found that most people who wouldn't or couldn't drink in moderation developed health problems and some of them passed away. (Sorry to sound like I'm preaching.) Most people who successfully have families and reach their goals learn that they need to moderate the use of booze or risk losing it all. I hope you can continue to have fun, be happy, and reach your goals. MFP is a great place to work on your health.

Add me as a friend if you like.
  • My booze weight gain is definitely the reason I'm here! Not only do the calories in the alcohol add up, then youhave to account for the bar food, plus drunk late night eating at 3 am!

I've made it a goal to cut back to no more than one night of drinking a week. It sounds tough, given I was seriousoly going out 3-4 times a week, but if I can do it anyone can! Plus it saves a ton of money too...

ya I have never really been able to go out. My hubby and I have been parents since we were 15 ( I know! OUR choice) So we own our own biz, we bust our butts and after a long days work we have some beers!
