Healthy weight loss

For those of you who have successfully lost and then maintained your loss, how much did you lose each week? How many times, and for how long did you exercise? I'm trying to get back into this, but it's not that easy. I need to lose at least 20 lbs.

I never ate at a level where I'd lose more than a lb a week. Lost 50lbs and have maintained it, with a few slip ups for about 4 years. When I got within 10lbs of my goal, I upped my intake to lose .5lbs a week.
When I was losing the original 50lbs I'd workout (by either walking, aerobic classes, or weight training) about 2 to 3 times a week. Anymore and I felt like it was a punishment. I needed to find something for every season that I liked doing or I wouldn't do it. My winter time exercise was mainly workout videos. I found Jillian Michaels good for a 20 minute quick workout that challenged me.
I think you need to realize that this will take time and it will be aggravating. Once you get the hang of it, you'll actually find it pretty easy. There will be times when you want to throw in the towel, but if you want it more than you want the one food item that will put you over calories for the day you'll succeed.0 -
I've literally only just started maintaining (as of yesterday actually) so that is totally new to me.
In regards to the weight loss, I lost on average around 1-2lb's per week. I would exercise 3-4 times a week (Cardio/strength training). It took me around 7 months to lose my 36lbs. Having said that, I was extremely 'strict' and it wasn't all that 'fun'. After discovering MFP, it really wasn't necessary for me to be so crazily hard on myself so my advice would be - take it slow, enjoy the process and go get it!0 -
I have maintained a 40 pound loss for nearly 9 years. My weight fluctuates up and down around the last 15 pounds maintaining. Early on I lost 1.75 pounds a week for the first 2 months...from m there a bit less than a pound a week. I'm currently trying to get to race weight so I am restricting despite being at a healthy weight.
I exercise 80 to 90 minutes a day. At that level of exercise I have a lot of flexibility to eat what I want...but the catch is that kind of exercise can really make me super hungry.0 -
I've been maintaining for over 2 and a half years now and I lost 80 lbs.
For me it took sometime to get into the swing of things, so I only lost a 1/2 lb a week at first if that.
Once got both my diet under control and was able to exercise longer, I steadily lost 1 lb a week (sometimes 2 lbs) until the end when it took me 2 months to lose 5 lbs. I had a small calorie deficit and was okay with losing at the slower pace.
Fitness was my major goal so I exercised often and still do. I tried to do a little something everyday to build my endurance and cardio strength.
I started off walking slowly for a short time, then I was able to walk faster and longer, then I introduced weights and found other sports and activities I enjoyed. Now I'm active (working out/playing sports) once or twice a day depending on how I feel.
Make sure your diet is in check, weigh your food and stay mindful. You can do this!0 -
Everyone is different, I dont think you should schedule your weightloss based on someone else's success.0

1.25 or so average but some weeks were 3 and the next 1/2 lb.
I have kept 125 lbs off a year and been doing body comp and other sporting activities
No crazy diets. Just regular meats and veggies at a reasonable calorie level with some enjoyable exercise
I kept the fun exercise as a lifestyle change.

Everyone is different, should have this discussion with your doctor after a physical.0 -
I'm just getting a baseline. I see a doctor every month (kidney failure). My diet is extremely restricted. I'm restricted on any leafy green veggies, legumes, dairy, nuts, several fruits are restricted as well. It's low phosphorus, low potassium, low Vitamin K, low sugar and low sodium. I also get two bags of 1.5 sugar solution every night (PD dialysis). My energy level is low b/c of kidney failure. I'm shooting for 3 days to get used used to it again. My diet, however is my downfall. All the healthy stuff I used to eat is restricted. When I do eat "healthy", my labwork is so wrong.0
