Lose weight after pregnancy!

So, I'm feeling super stoked right now. Had a baby less than two weeks ago, and I've lost 23 lbs! Granted the baby was a little over 6.5 lbs of that, but I'm still excited. I've always had a super hard time dropping the weight after each pregnancy (just had my 4th), so I'm shocked I've lost this much already.

During the first few days after delivering (I had a C-section, I don't know if that changes things), I was sooooo thirsty, so I found myself drinking over 160 oz. of water a day. The thirst subsided after awhile, but I'm still drinking at least 100 oz/day. I'm also nursing my baby full time, and will pump about once a day. I like to have extra milk on hand, just in case.
As far as diet goes, I'm on 1700 calories/day. No exercise yet, won't be cleared to do that until my 6 week checkup. However, I walk when I can, but I don't log it, since I'm walking for healing purposes, and go very slowly.
I think that's it. The combination of drinking tons of water, nursing my baby and eating approximately 1700 calories a day seems to be working well. I'm about 156 lbs, and 5'2.
Had to share, and I hope this helps!

Congrats on the baby!! I didn't bother working out until I was about 6 months postpartum, because I found initially my milk supply dropped with too much strenuous exercise, so I didn't get back into the swing of things until later. But good luck!! I know those first few weeks were killer on me. Hope they're better for you!
  • Congrats...Im down 28# since delivering April 29th. Make sure you are logging breastfeeding into your food diary. Just type it in like a food to add it!

28 lbs is awesome, Aswearingen. I'm logging the breasfeeding into my food diary for sure. :)
  • 9# less than when I got pregnant :) Can't wait to loose 20# more and be down to what I was before my 1st baby.

You rock!! Breastfeeding is the ultimate weight loss trick. Keep it up! Like another poster mentioned, hard exercise can cause your milk to decrease so be careful. Keep on walking and making healthy choices, bfing will do the rest!

That's amazing! I had a c-section when my son was born, and I dropped 25 pounds within the first two weeks. But then I wound up not being able to breast feed and the weight flew back up! I've been at almost pregnancy weight for a while now, and I'm darned tired of it! Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration to us mommas!

I was on a fast-track to losing weight before son was born in April. I lost 40lbs then found out I was pregnant, so the eating well and exercising went out the door, unfortunately. So, since my son was born, I have gained most of the weight back and I have just reached my limit. I just started Saturday, so hopefully I can drop that 40 again plus an addtiional 20! Wish me luck!
