Protein

Hi everyone,
I had a quick question.
So I normally go to the gym 4-5 times a week for 2hrs -3hrs a day. I am 5'0 feet, I lost 7 pounds when I began but gained them back assuming in muscle. When at the gym I always push myself.
I never had a protein shake until now, I drank a protein shake hours before going to the gym. When I was at the gym, I felt light headed, nauseas, and the urge to vomit. I didn't stay for long due to how horrible I felt.
My question is ...is that normal?

First, it's unlikely you put on 7 lbs of muscle. If you're in a calorie deficit (which if you lost 7 lbs, means that you are), it would be extremely extremely extremely hard to do so. You have to be in a calorie surplus to gain muscle, and for women it's much harder to do so. It's more likely that you gained water weight, either from glycogen replenishment, muscle repair, ToM, sodium, etc.
Second, no it's not normal. You said you drank it hours before going to the gym, so it could be unrelated. Perhaps you're just coming down with something. If it were an allergy I'd think you'd have a reaction much sooner than hours later.0 -

No...it's not normal to be light headed, nauseous, or feel like you have to vomit. I thought this was pretty common knowledge?0 -

Well if she was doing cross-fit they might have told her it was the sign of hard work.0 -

No that's not normal. Are you implying the protein shake made you feel that way?
Just curious, what's your calorie goal? Do you eat back any of your exercise calories? Are you doing cardio for 2-3 hours? 2-3 hours at the gym seems like a lot to me.0 -
OP - Not that is not normal and what are you using to measure a seven pound loss replaced with seven pounds of muscle...?0

Try having your protein shake after exercise. This will have no baring on weight loss or muscle gain etc (meal timing does not matter), but it might simply feel more comfortable to exercise without a milkshake swooshing around in you. Maybe eat a small amount of "proper food" before exercise if your hungry or feel you need the energy. I would feel sick if I drank a shake before a workout.0

Anything more than 45 mins is a waste.

I just noticed that you said you had the protein shake a few hours before exercise. That should be fine, so the ill effects you felt are quite unusual. Maybe you just had a bad day at the gym.0

Thanks I will give that a shot!
