Welcome to the 2016 Adopt-a-Noob Discussion!
This thread is dedicated to those MFP members that would like to volunteer their time to mentor or adopt a new comer to MFP; with the high volume that occurs in the beginning of the year, this will be an easy way for new members to view profiles of members to friend and lean on for advice, guidance or direction.
For those who participated in the Adopt-a-Noob discussion last year - giant thanks for your willingness to give back and support others on their path. If you have recently posted in the original discussion, or volunteered last year and have bandwidth again, please be sure to re-post here.

We will maintain a list of forum members (in this post) of all the members that would like to become a mentor or volunteer their time. We suggest that you post some background (essentially a short profile) on yourself to give the new members some prior knowledge. If at any time, you want to revise your post, please send an update to @Nova or @Betty, and we will alter your original post as soon as we are able.

I can gladly be a mentor for anyone who isn't perfect and isn't trying to be. They just want to be better than they were yesterday. I have lost almost 34 lbs and I have done so by just eating less and moving more. I am on mfp multiple times a day and I prelog 2 weeks at a time. I try to answer any questions I can and motivate all my friends on a very consistent basis. Checking in on those who don't log in for a few days in a row.41

I'm happy to be a mentor!
I've lost virtually all of the weight I had to lose and now I'm mostly working on strength and fitness - I pole dance, run, do yoga horse ride, hillwalk and climb as often as I can. I'm training for a 10K and eventually a half marathon and also Tough Mudder next year.
I'm pretty sociable with my friends on here, I'm always kicking about and I love getting to know new people. I'm happy to chat via message if anyone has any questions!

I would love to help someone! I log daily, & I am very active on MFP. My background: I had to find a way to get into shape that was gradual, & low impact because of injuries; so I'm willing to take as long as someone needs to get healthier if they have physical limitations preventing them from doing rigorous cardio. Also, I was suffering from pre-diabetes when I started here, so I can cater to fitness/food diary limitations for diabetics. I can suggest recipes that are low sugar, but also (if you have allergies, or food intolerances) dairy free, corn free, peanut free, gluten free, soy free, nut free & more because I avoid those myself. I've lost almost 60 pounds here thanks in part to the amazing support my MFP friends have been, and wish to provide daily support for someone else that needs it! I'm super positive, & I'm always willing to provide helpful support that will build you up instead of break you down! Have a great day everyone! =^)23

I'd be honored to help a few young ladies get healthy in 2016. As a mentor, I might not know much about nutrition or fitness, but I can relate to certain experiences and will gladly cheer on/encourage anyone who needs it/be a listening ear when needed, especially from a Christian perspective. I've logged faithfully for quite a while, gained control of diabetes and lost a total of 60 lbs despite having to "do life " from a wheelchair. Before getting a major wound, I loved to ride a horse and use one of those hand-bike machine thingamajigs for exercise (and used to play/love baseball), and I believe that all food is safe for dieters as long as you're not allergic/intolerant to it (I'm looking at you, chocolate and fries!). If you think you might need me, please let me know!5

I really don't know if I'm supposed to write here or whatnot, but here goes.
I am searching for a mentor.
I'm 18 years old and really new to this exercising thing, I'm tired of being too skinny, too small, too weak. So if any mentor feels like taking part in my journey, I'd appreciate it. I'm fairly poor as well, so I will be using what I have at home for the next couple of months.

A bit about me....
My name is Claire and I'm a personal trainer in the UK. I work with clients with a variety of goals and am happy to help people on here! I love the opportunity to work closely with people because i find we all gain more from it so this seems like a great option!
I'm also a mum of 3 (all under 5) and so know the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a young family!
What can I offer....
I offer regular messages of support, looking through your food diary. In addition am happy to help with workout planning and even nutrition planning.

I am also looking for people who are truly committed to making a lifestyle change! I like to give 100% to those I work with and would ask for the same in return! Ideally in looking with people who would like some help and support throughout their journey and not just at the beginning!
NOTE: I am very sorry but I will be unable to work with anyone who chooses to follow a fad diet or a diet that I feel is unhealthy (i don't mean the odd treat etc) or unsafe.

I'd love to help someone with their health & fitness goals!
I know when I first started years and years ago, I was overwhelmed with not knowing where to begin. But I'm an information junky and love to research research research and as such, love to dispense the knowledge as well.
There's also no one size fits all, when it comes to health and fitness, (besides some core basics) so it's really about finding out what works for YOU at the end of the day. The best nutritional and workout program is the one you can stick to. But I find this aspect of health and nutrition extremely fun and challenging!
I also ran a health & fitness group on Facebook a couple years ago and helped collectively, 50+ people lose over 1,000lbs, all by proxy and from my computer.
As for the information dispensed, I take a no BS approach to health & fitness, backed up by current, published research and none of that supplement pushing many online 'gurus' and guides try to push. All you need is just good food, good information and the willpower to change your life. No fads, no gimmicks, no BS...
Who am I looking for? Anyone and everyone. As long as you supply the willpower and motivation, I can supply the information and the knowledge to help you get there.
As for myself, I used to be very overweight most my life. At my heaviest, I was 240lb's. (I'm 5'10") Then one day, I saw a picture of myself shirtless and decided enough was enough, then embarked upon a journey to not only lose the weight, but keep it off and change my entire lifestyle to revolve around health & fitness. Been @ this since about 2010.

This is when I finally committed myself to changing my life.

I'd really appreciate a mentor on here! I cannot seem to re-kick start the healthy lifestyle I followed for years and years. Since I had my youngest 1.5yrs ago, I've lost little weight and 28lbs heavier. I try and start every day and by the end of every day, I'm disgusted in the food I have eaten. And feel a failure. I'm not looking for a quick fix but a change of mind set, healthy living and an enjoyment of exercise again! Can anyone help! I'm in the uk if that makes any difference.3

I'd be happy to be a mentor!
I live in Japan. In 2011 I started at 176lbs (80kg) at age 22. I lost about 30lbs in about 4 months, and I've kept it off for 4 years.
To date, I've lost a total of 46lbs (21kg) and I'm working fitness now.
I enjoy (like, actually enjoy!) running, walking and cycling. I do some light strength training each week. I have never been to a gym, so I can offer advice to anyone who can’t afford to go (or, like me, is too anxious to go) to a gym.
I have never formally studied nutrition, but I have a fairly sound knowledge of it, and I am a big fan of making this whole weight loss and fitness process as painless as possible. There is no magic fix, and you have to put in the work yourself, but it doesn’t have to suck.
Also, I’m a teacher (an English as a Foreign Language teacher, in fact), so hopefully I can explain everything you need to know, simply and clearly.
I also hate the terms "noob" or "newbie" and so I will never refer to you as such.5 -
Not sure if this is where I'd post but I'd love a mentor. I've been using the MFP app for a year or so -- I sort of suck keeping track of what I eat. Never ventured past looking at the food diary - so I don't know how to use the boards or how a mentor would connect with me. I'll be 48 next week - have always been obsessive about working out. I get anxious if I miss a day sort of thing. Mostly yoga, running and cycling in warm weather. I'm not great at any of it - but am consistent So I've never counted calories because I always burned them off. But now -- as my more um .. "mature" years are approaching - I'm finding I can't work out enough to keep the weight down. I actually sell food (Tastefully Simple - it's a direct sales company) and substitute teach -- hopefully will be teaching full time within the next year though. I have 3 kids -- but they are older (11, 15 and 17) so it's not like I have to be home with them and they need tons of attention - but they still keep me busy) Hoping to find a mentor who can sort of guide me, keep me on track - and become online buds with in the process! Looking to really motivate each other.1

Current weight (CW): 105! and maintaining since September.
I've had MFP since 2011, but got serious in March 2015. Have no idea what changed, but maybe it really is just a matter of willpower.
Started running with a Couch to 5K program (C25K), but switched to body weight strength training in April. Five days a week since, and haven't looked back.
To lose weight I was at 1,200 calories, which a matter of contention around here, but I emphasized lean protein and vegetables. I ate back about half of my exercise calories.
Maintenance is 1,410. Sucked at first but as trite as it is, it really is a lifestyle change and not just a diet. I'll be tracking...well...forever because I know if I don't, bad habits creep back up .
I have an indulgent meal once and while (maybe once a month) and try to include something I enjoy in every meal I have.2 -

I’ll volunteer as a mentor.
I am willing to mentor up to two people - one of each gender preferably. Extra-special consideration given to those who are interested in competing in powerlifting, strongman, or weightlifting sometime in the future.
ABOUT ME:
I returned to fitness in March 2014 after a solid 5 years off and the previous 5 years were punctuated with intermittent gym attendance. I got started weight training when I was junior in high school (1989) when there was no internet, smart phones, or access to programming.
Currently, I compete in powerlifting and am 44 years old.
Please review what principles in health and fitness I follow (ie. #CICO, #IIFYM, progressive resistance) before you PM me your request, and I will make selection by week's end. It's important that we understand each other. You can also take a look at my current training here.

I'd like to be a mentor I'm not super focused on fitness currently but I have lost 46lbs since May this year, so I may be a better fit for someone who doesn't want indepth help with fitness but just wants support and pointers in the right direction. I usually don't prelog and like to make whatever I fancy for my meals (within my daily calories of course), and I don't restrict on carbs or anything, as well as having the odd maintenance day, so maybe someone who wants a more laid back approach to diet and fitness would be a good match?
I'm 21 and a university student living with my partner. I'm 5"7 and 158lbs, and in 7 months I've taken my BMI down from 32 to 25.
I lost my weight initially through home workouts and diet change and gradually dropped down to just regulating my calorie consumption. I'm still in the process of losing weight but slowly as I'm now a 'healthy' weight. I've struggled with my weight all my life and so like to think I could probably relate to a lot of common weight loss related problems. Although I don't support and ridiculous fad diets.
Anyone looking for ongoing support or general pointers and would like me as a mentor (disclaimer: I'm by no means an expert, haha) is welcome to contact me with a short message6 -

I have been on MFP for a while now, and I actually joined Weight Watchers as well to try to lose weight!! I was down about 40 pounds, and then I decided to QUIT SMOKING!!! This by far has been one of the best things that I will ever do for myself...however, I have gained back all of that weight.
My sister is getting married exactly a year from today and I have been asked to stand up in the wedding. I would love to be a little bit healthier so that I can keep up with her on her wedding night and make sure that her night is a night to remember.
I am a type two diabetic, that is serious about losing the weight! The doctors say that if I lost about 50-75 lbs, there is a good chance I won't need to be on medication anymore!!
I am starting back in the gym again (i actually enjoy the gym) on Jan 2nd! My plan is to be going at LEAST three times a week. I love going to the gym, but the only thing I know how to do is cardio. I need a little bit of guidance in weights/strength training.
I would love to have a friend that can lend advice and check in with me from time to time. I know that you have other people looking to be your 'noob' but I hope that you will consider me

I have a long fitness journey ahead of me with trying to lose 80 lbs; so I am looking for a mentor to help me workout the mental struggle of taking on a lifestyle change. Professionally, I do a lot of cheerleading and motivating with the people I work with, but am lost on doing that for myself. I would gladly appreciate any help, insight, or tough love to keep me honest as I start again.

This year I'm only taking ONE noob.
You better be COMMITTED. I have little time to play tag so my expectation is that whomever I pick logs everyday. I have a daily workout thread on here that's been going since I've basically started.
While my sig line gives most of my credentials, I've done just lots of types of training with all different types of people: kids, college athletes (GMU), rehab, sport specific, group fitness, individual fitness, weight loss, competitive (stage) fitness or bodybuilding, seniors, and even handicapped.
I'm good at my job and love what I do. Best gratitude anyone can give to me is just to reach your goal with a little help from me on the side.
I will let whomever I choose know by Sunday the 3rd.

I am looking for a mentor. I have been at this since March 2014 and I am very close to my goal range (give or take 5-7 lbs) and am looking for a mentor for mainly fitness reasons, but could use some help hitting my macros as well. I mainly do body weight exercises now-push ups, sit ups, squats, and modified pull ups (I hate the treadmill)..but would prefer to start working with someone with some lifting experience who can give me direction. I. AM. WEAK. And want to change THAT, but don't know where to start. Please PM me. My goals are small: HIT 130. 20 pushups. Squat my own weight. 10 pull ups. Totally doable.1

i have lost 50kg(100 +lbs), reversed my type 2 diabetes,controlled both ibs-c and diverticulitis mainly thru diet and exercise.
i have gone from couch25k to completing half marathon and training for full marathons in both running and indoor rowing.

I know that it's the mentor's that are supposed to comment... but I'd love to be adopted. I want to do IIFYM and have (free) access to a Crossfit-type-of-gym but no access to a gym where I could do my own thing.
Don't be fooled by my well-angled photo... I have 100lbs to lose and want to set some realistic goals. I don't want to do anything faddish and must have corn tortillas and sriracha in my weekly diet.

I'm willing to mentor 1-2 people if they're a good fit. I am not a hand holder. I will encourage you and answer any questions that I can. I am on MFP daily (today is my 1030 logging streak anniversary). I don't have the power or the inclination to "make" you do anything, so if you're looking for someone to push you, I'm not it. I am completely willing to be the person you check in with as an accountability partner, but in order for you to be successful, you need to be ready to do this for you.
I am 47 years old, and started this journey nearly 4 years ago. After years of failed attempts of losing weight using just about every gimmick out there, I finally turned to the basics - I hired a personal trainer and signed up for MFP. Losing weight & getting fit was not easy for me. It was a lot of work. It's still a lot of work. Fortunately I really like working out. Eating well is more of a challenge for me.
I have my struggles, and I'm pretty open with them. If I don't do something I'm supposed to I try very hard to own that, and not make excuses. I'm down 90 pounds from my heaviest. I'm up 20 pounds from my lightest. The origin of that was an injury that sidelined me from running; the reality is I kept eating like a runner when I wasn't running. That was my fault, not the injury's. No excuses. When I am active, I believe that I need to fuel my body with adequate calories.
If you are new and think I can help, please send me a FR with a message telling me a little bit about yourself. I may or may not make it back to this thread (I'm almost never in the forums and instead spend my time on MFP interacting with the people on my FL) so if you write here I make no promises that I'll see it.
