What are you looking forward to as we get more daylight?

Tomorrow, December 22, 2015 is the shortest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere. These days of getting up in the dark and the sun going down earlier every day are coming to a close. Every day will have a little more daylight than the day before. I love the sunlight coming through my windows.

I'm looking forward to not having to close my curtains so early in the day. I'm looking forward to pretty sunsets after dinner instead of before. I'm looking forward to once again rolling out of bed and going for a walk before my brain wakes up - I can't/won't do that in pitch darkness.

What are you looking forward to?

Welcome!

More sunlight and warmth to get motivated to walk more.

My dog is looking forward to evening walks again. We don't have sidewalks near my house and the speed limit is 40 mph so it's not safe to walk him in the dark.

I have him doing all sorts of yard and house activities to stay fit, but it's just not the same as a good ole walk to the park.

Seeing Sunlight! It's dark when I leave for work and it's dark when I get home from work. There are days when I don't actually see the sun. My work spaces at my office and at my client offices aren't near or don't have windows.

It's dark when I leave for work & dark when I go home. It'll be nice to have the light back! I also really like the very pale blue the sky sometimes is on winter mornings. It's lovely.

Taking a walk after work. I really miss that.

Extra walks/runs after work and walks with doggies. No street lights or sidewalks on my street and I live in a rural area where people drive fast. While it's dark in the morning when I exercise, at least then I only have to avoid 1 or 2 cars potentially hitting me because most people aren't awake yet.

I want winter to stay! I hate the sun. When it gets bright out, I can't run outside without sweating off my sunscreen and getting burned. :(

We'll take good care of it for you, and return it in about 6 months.

Not going to the gym in the dark after work. Unfortunately THAT won't be for quite a bit still.

I've always found that the longer days motivate me more!!

I'm looking forward to being able to finish work and still see my horse and dogs in the evening! (The dogs are black labs - not great for walks in the dark!)

How about putting on reflective gear, on both you & your pets, to be more visible; to motorists? Otherwise for me, I avoid going out at night because of the greater possibility, of being a crime victim & because the temperature is lower. I'd like to buy a bicycle, to run errands with; when Daylight Saving Time Begins. They've been fixing existing & installing new sidewalks, we don't have bike lanes, I am not fast enough, to share the road; with vehicles & sometimes there aren't any shoulders or vehicles park on them.

I really miss taking long walks with my guy after dinner. Sometimes it's a leisure walk for a couple of miles, other times it's a brisk 4 - 5 power walk. We have so much for talking and laughing, before we know it an hour has gone by!

Even though it's dark outside very early, it's still no excuse not to workout. I'll lace up my ice skates, pop in a Leslie Sansone walking workout dvd or hit the weights at home.

Will get back to power walking outdoors in 3 - 4 months. :)

Not feeling like I want to go to bed at 6:00! Seems like once it gets dark I think it's time for bed.

I just miss the couple months a year when I can go for a walk after dinner before it gets too dark (and it's not too cold or too hot, lol).

    Not running in the dark.

I still run when it's dark early, but we drive to a safer neighborhood with sidewalks and streetlights to do it. When it's light out, I can run near home.

I live in the mountains in Colorado.

I am looking forward to riding my new bike sometime in the spring, when the snow melts off the roads.

But for now, I am excited about going ice skating on New Years Eve at a local lake. They have fireworks at midnight!

I haven't iceskating in at least 25 years!

I love more sun! I was so excited that we got to the shortest day and now will be having more sunshine bit by bit that I was annoying my kids every time I said it. Walks after dark as I live rurally and cars drive past here at about 90km/hr, watching sunsets during/after supper instead of before, doing chores in the daylight instead of tripping on clumps of ice and farm implements when my headlamp decides to run olyt of juice half way through. And I am becoming more of a morning person as well so I will enjoy daylight to wake up to when it gets to that point. I love early mornings when it is bright!!
