Green Tea. Boiling it and leaving the tea bag overnight?

Is that ok to do? I saw an answer telling someone to take the bag out after 5 minutes.
No reason why. I do not like hot tea, so I make it the night before and the next day is to room temperature. I figured leaving the tea bag in makes the taste stronger. Any harm? Be specific.

Green tea should not be made with boiling water. It scalds the leaves and makes it taste bitter. Leaving the bag in overnight could also leach the flavour and turn it into an unpleasant drink so I wouldn't recommend.0

I don't know about leaving the tea in the water overnight, but you shouldn't use boiling water to make green tea. Boil the water and then take it off the heat for a few minutes before steaping the tea. I often make a full pot of tea at night, drink one cup and put the rest in a reusable water bottle in the fridge to take to work with me in the morning.
I would think leaving the tea bag in the water overnight would ruin the flavor of the tea, but I have never done that, so no idea. Any kind of tea you drink, you are only supposed to steep the tea for a few minutes to get the best taste.0 -
No harm, but I find green tea that has steeped for more than 5 mins is bitter and horrid, and I really like green tea!
It won't do you any damage, so try it and see if you like the taste.0 -
Okay, first of all... no.
Green tea is a delicate leaf and will burn if you use boiling water. It will be bitter, acidic, and s##tty tasting.
As far as cold brewing tea, it can be done, but i don't recommend it with green tea. Something like black tea should be find to cold brew (AKA put the tea bags in there and just leave it). Even then it needs to be removed within an hour or so before it gets bitter and horrible.
If you want to drink iced green tea, no problem! Just don't do the above two things!!!

Once the above is done you can add sweetener if you must, then let it come to room temperature and refrigerate. With green tea lower temp, much shorter time is the difference between great tea and horrible bitter crap.
Best of luck!0 -
Can't wait to try it the right way. I will let the boiling water "rest" before pouring, and I will take the bag out after 5 mins.

Video says to let boiling water cool for 5 to 10 but only steep for ONE minute. I cannot wait to try this.0 -

Green tea is 1-2 minutes steeping time.
Black tea is 3-5.0 -
Thanks! I just got a box of tea samples for Christmas and didn't have the slightest idea that there are different brewing rules for each. (coffee drinker) No wonder my green tea tasted horrible last night.0

For a good cup of green tea:
- Do not use tea bags, use loose leaf
- Use water that is 175° to 180°
- Steep no more than 2 minutes for the first steeping. Loose leaf can be steeped as many as 3-4 times, a little longer each time. Do not steep tea bags more than once.

There is no harm in it, and it will not hurt you. If you like it, then drink it. Probably best not to speak of it to dedicated tea drinkers, however.0

goodness. i just steep the tea until it "looks" dark enough for me. I am not really a fan of green tea but due to its health properties, I may revisit0
