A "Detox" to start?

Hello all,
I've heard some people say over the past months and years, that they sometimes "kick start" (their words, not mine) a diet with a "Detox" of some sort. First is that necessary, or healthy? and secondly, if so, what should I do? Thanks in advance for the help!

If you eat healthy theres no reason for a detox, but there are some healthier detox regimines out there.

Hi Robert!
I've found the best detox for me is to just stick to fresh veggies and fruit (just a little fruit) and lean meat, and to totally cut out grains, sugars, dairy products and ANYTHING processed. Do that for 3-5 days and you'll be all clean inside and feeling great0 -

Thats kind of funny since that's practically the Fruit Flush diet that I commented. Yeah, honestly, that's really the only way I detox too.0 -
Last year to start my healthy lifestyle, I started a colon cleanse. To me it was a way to start over with my eating habits and clean out my system which I had never done before. I was recommended one by a friend whose father was battling colon cancer. She continues to do it about once a year and it really helped out her father. I get mine from the website www.blessedherbs.com I think it is a very healthy "detox". There are a lot of scams that are not healthy--I've heard horror stories like you have to sit by the toilet non-stop and not getting enough nutrients/getting sick. The colon cleanse from blessed herbs is easy (hard to fast before though). I did lose about 3-4 pounds of "stuff"during it. I felt better during and after the cleanse and felt like I was able to re-start my eating habits when I finished it. I hope my answer has helped. Please do your research and don't do one of those detox fads.0

It's not necessary, but it is a viable option. I've not done it as a "jump start," but I do, periodically, undergo a detox because it makes me feel better overall.
If you're seriously considering it, I recommend 'The 3-Day Energy Fast' by Pamela Serure (1997). I've used it for years, and yes I always lose weight with it, but there are so many other benefits. Increased energy is a major plus, and I just feel better after the weekend. I usually commit to the fast on a holiday weekend so it doesn't disrupt my "normal" schedule."
It's not cheap, but it's great! And, while it is a fast, you aren't starving as you're drinking loads of fresh, organic produce. It's one of the healthiest 'detox' programs I've encountered. Although I've never actually crunched the caloric numbers. The dessert options are divine!
Good luck whatever you decide.0
