Hi everybody! I started to use this app 6 days ago. The app told me I have to eat just 1200 calories but since I am doing it i have been feeling tired and weak all day! I have no energy and i wanted to know if someone else has the same problem.

    Eat more. Stop trying to accomplish too much too fast and set more reasonable goals. Eat more.

    You may have set too aggressive a weight loss goal for the amount of weight you need to lose. These targets should be sustainable:
    < 25 pounds - 0.5 pound per week
    < 50 pounds - 1 pound per week
    < 75 pounds - 1.5 pounds per week

    It is often very useful to log what you are eating normally, then gradually decrease to your calorie goal. Much easier both physically and mentally.
    It also gives you the opportunity to review your food ( as you ate prior to a deficit) and decide where you can cut or eliminate portions.

    If you like volume, salads and veg fill you much more than a, double the calories, doughnut.

    As stated above, plan your rate of loss according to how much you have to lose.

    A digital food scale and liquid measuring cups will really help you in accuracy along the way.

    Yea you probably do need to eat more. I cut my calories too low to try and get abs and it hurt more than help. I ate 800 more than did Core

    @Misshodge64 @middlehaitch @kshama2001 my goal was 8 pounds, and I was trying to lose a pound per week but thinking about the limitation of 1200 calories was making me feel overwhelmed.

    Your body is saying "LISTEN TO ME!". "I need FUEL". "What you are feeding me isn't sufficient". Listen to your body.

    1200 is a very low allowance and in a lot of cases it really isn't at all necessary to eat so little.

    I don't know your stats but I am a 5 ft 2 female and weighing in at around 119 lbs. I lose weight on around 1500 calories. I *did* do the 1200 plan for quite a few months but I was very weak and it just wasn't working out for me. I was miserable and not 'myself' and mental health is just as important to me as physical.

    If 1200 is genuinely your number, try more protein based foods. Anything that typically fills you up adequately is going to be key. For me, porridge (oatmeal) is a really great filling low calorie choice.

    with only 8 Lbs to lose, your rate of loss goal is too aggressive...you don't have the fat stores and yeah, you're going to be pretty lethargic at such a low calorie target...set it to 1/2 Lb per week and exercise...when you exercise you can also eat more.

    i usually put on 8-10 Lbs over the winter and it generally takes me 2-3 months to take it off. when you're at a healthy weight already, it's slow and you have to remember to fuel your body.

    You definitely need to eat more. Set your diary to lose .5 pounds a week.

    1200 is not that low. You just need time to get used to it. :)

    You can eat more....! and just lose weight at a slower rate yet never feel that you are denying yourself.

    Hi, I know it's already been said above, by @middlehaitch but I had the same conversation with my friend the other day. She was commenting on my loss (18 lbs) and asked how I'd done it. I advised her to log what she eats with out trying to lose for a week and go from there, substracting 500 cals a day.
    You can eat so much more than 1200 and lose ! I wish I'd known that early on. When I upped my calories I felt so much better. I can lose on 1750 cals a day (I'm 5'3) but I started on 1200 too ( was exhausted) It's so much easier and you'll have much more energy.

    First week is hardest, but if you still feel tired after a week, up your calories. Also, I don't know what kind of food you eat, but maybe your body is missing nutrients, not calories. If you need more tips, recipes or support feel free to add me! Welcome to mfp and good luck :)

    I had the same problem 2 years ago.

    The trick is to up the calorie intake and focus on getting a lot more time in the gym.

    I lost weight twice.

    1. 1700 calories with 1-2 1 hr gym sessions. I ended up a slave to hunger. It lasted about 1 month then I took a stressful consulting gig...ended up gaining all the weight back plus 5. (Weekly deficit around 5000 cals).

    2. 2000 calories (2200 on work out days) with 3 1.5 hr gym sessions. I make no excuses on the exercise as its a 400 calorie insurance policy (per day). I'll once in a while overshoot the 2000 (even have a few 2800+ days), but it's rarely due to hunger. Even then the 2800 calories burned cover a lot of slippage. (Weekly deficit 6300 cals). I've held that for 1.5 months at a 16-17 lb loss (around 10 lb a month).

    Also, a good tip I got from a nutritionist is to eat wheat instead of processed grains. Try to add veggies to any dish as the fiber makes you feel fuller.

    Not sure how that would translate for women in terms of cals (I need between 2400-2500 a day).
