I am 18 years old. I weigh 205lb. I am 5' 5". I am female. I am exercising everyday for at least 30 minutes. Is it possible for me to lose at least 40lbs by this summer?

Depends on how many calories you are eating per day. Normal and safe weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week.

I input my food on here and it says I'm not eating enough calories but I'm not starving myself :/.

You need to eat at least the minimum recommend calories. You may feel ok eating so little in the short-term, but it WILL catch up with you on the long run.

Possible IF your calorie deficit is correct and you're consistent. I gauged it at 36lbs if weight loss is linear, but it's not so you'll just have to do it and see.

Make sure to be accurate. Use a food scale, because if you aren't, it's *very* likely you are eating a lot more calories than you think.

For the first day or two of being here, you might eat less.
Especially if you ate a lot the day before you started the diet.

The question really shouldn't be if it's possible, a lot is possible. It should be if it's healthy.
Let's say you want to lose it by July 1st. for something more concrete than "summer". That's half a year from now. 26 Weeks. To lose 40 pounds in 26 weeks you need to lose about 1.5 pounds per week which is about 750 calories under what you burn per day.
If you can do that while still getting in all the nutrition you need (very important) and not feel miserable while doing it (also very important), you can do it.

As noted, you want to do it healthy. If you keep weight loss under 1% per week and get enough nutrients then you can start off losing 2lb/week, but you'll have to slow it down as you lose weight (you probably won't want to continue at that rate anyways, since it is hard).

I personally lost 43.2lb in 30 weeks, but I started at 220lb and I'm a 5'11" guy so creating that 2lb/week deficit is slightly easier. The best you can do is create a smart healthy plan and stick to it and see what happens. Even if you only hit 20-30lb by summer it is still great progress. You can easily hit 40lb by the end of summer if you stick with it.

It's impossible because you are not tracking what you are eating.

Try not to build up a time line as super important in your mind. It can be very dispiriting to not meet time goals.

    That being said, I think you could get to that point or relatively close. I'm a 5'5.5" woman. I started 2014 at 202.5. I was 176 by 3/31, 167.3 by 5/31, 154.5 by 9/30, and 150 by 12/31.

I started in January 3 years ago at 213 and I was 150 in the Summer. I'm older than you and never ate under 1650 either. So definitely possible.

I am around the same size and height as you - although a lot older! I am hoping to lose more than that by the summer but only because I know the first few weeks will be a higher loss then it will settle down to a more consistent weight loss each week. Just try to make sure most of your food is fresh healthy food and try not to have too much processed stuff. A lot of my calories come from vegetables, with the occasional bit of chocolate or similar if I have enough calories left. By eating fresh food I am eating more than I did before I started losing weight.

@Francl27 How was it for you? Were you white-knuckling it and always hungry, or was it easier than that?

Honestly it was totally fine! I guess I was used to grazing on high calorie food and not really to eat big meals, so my stomach wasn't that big. I was *very* determined though (wish I could find that willpower again now). I used protein shakes, granola bars, and plain yogurt with fruit to help my sweet tooth. Worked out pretty much every day (started very slowly though because I was completely out of shape). My goal was to lose 1 pound a week but I lost 1.5 for a while.

But it's been 3 years so it's a bit blurred. Looking back at my diary, I was still eating pizza, Taco Bell (fresco tacos), homemade tacos, and my protein was probably too low!

Yep, absolutely. I lost over that in that time frame before and am same height.
