Would you count hot tea as water intake?

No. As you use boiled water (or people generally do) for your tea, it no longer has the same qualities.

Water is water, whether hot, cold, frozen, etc. Even the water in your food, can be counted.

Not really sure how boiling water changes its qualities....if anything it purifies its more by killing bacteria.

The caffeine in tea can be a diuretic and therefore eliminate water from your body. I would not count it is water intake. I am trying to avoid caffeine to avoid the spikes in alertness and help with proper sleeping patterns.

I do believe Gun4a was being facetious.

However she didn't mention, if her tea is caffeinated; plus it isn't significant.

Whaaaat? If you are talking about boiled water not using calories to heat it intetnally like ice water does - then okay. But the effect is miniscule.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to go with not counting it, just to be safe. It is caffeinated and I'm sure another glass of water can't hurt me :)

I'd count it because to me, accuracy is important & the amount of caffeine, isn't significant enough; to be a diuretic.

What if I add a little sugar or honey? Would that take away from it being just water? That's the only reason I was thinking maybe don't count it as water. I always add lemon but occasionally will add honey to it.

You are correct that another glass is unlikely to hurt you, but the amount of caffeine in tea does not negate it's hydrating properties. You could be well hydrated drinking nothing but caffeinated tea.

I can see where everyone's coming from - fair enough. To me tea is still tea and water is water. And as @clrug0912 says - another glass of water won't hurt :-)

My thoughts exactly. Count your tea as water. You will be fine.

Water is water regardless of form or temperature. Personally I've never understood the point in logging water intake. If you are hydrated all is good, if dehydrated, drink more.

You should log calories from the honey, sugar, cream or whatever you may add.

Think of it this way. If you drank a glass of plain water and ate a lemon with honey on it, would you still consider the water to be water? Whether they come from separate receptacles or the same, they all end up in your stomach together. And the water is still water.

    This.

I don't even log my water intake since that's almost all i drink. The 8 cups of water recommendation actually includes water from food that you eat.

If you're thirsty, drink, if not, don't. If you think you're hungry, try drinking a glass of water first.

@clrug0912 It would just enhance the water & add calories, etc., to it but it wouldn't subtract, any of the water itself. Same thing if you made instant mashed potatoes from a box instead of tea, you'd be adding calories, etc., to the water but you could still count the water, as if you drank it plain; without anything added to it. So it doesn't matter if the water is plain, cooked, frozen, etc., I count it.

Lmao at this thread. Tea 100% counts a water. The quality changing of boiling almost had me on the floor, lol

It absolutely counts as water. Because science.

So do sodas, coffee, fruit juice, milk, etc., etc.

I agree, make it a habit and you won't need to log it. I love water so I'm always drinking it. If I drink tea it'd decaf simply because I'm already too energetic for anything caffeine.

I think ppl over think water... and yes to whomever didn't realize @Gun4a was just goofing around messing with you all... yes it was a joke. Amazing how many ppl didn't catch that. :#

I count water (with or without slice of fruit or veggie for taste) AND decaffeinated tea as water intake.

Your body doesn't ignore water just because it has other things in it. Your body extracts water from every beverage you drink other than alcohol. It also extracts water from many foods. If you want to make rules for yourself to try to drink more water, then you can count whatever you want to count, but your body will get the water it needs from all of it. Not to be indelicate, but the best way to tell if you're drinking enough water is from the color of your pee!

Didn't realize this would be such a hot topic! lol I generally don't log the water that's in food, only an actual cup of water. The only reason I'm logging it at all is just to make myself accountable for drinking that more instead of sodas. It was more just curiosity because I know there are a lot of different opinions on what is considered water.
