Cals in fruit and veg

hi all; is there a way I can track fruit n veg (excluding potatoes) but not count the calories?

You could create custom entries (please don't share them to the database, though), but why would you want to? A banana can have over 100 cals...0

You can keep notes, but why not track them if you are tracking.
If the deal is it discourages you from eating them, get over that. Eating adequate calories is not bad. It's problematic if people think lower is always better.0 -
Track them. Many fruits can add up to over a hundred calories.0

Weight Watchers doesn't count fruit and veg but gives you a lower calorie goal (hidden within the points) to make up for them.
MFP's calorie goal plans for you to enter every last thing (including fruit, veg, drinks, anything with calories) into your food diary.
When you track here, you need to track everything or else you'll be eating more calories than you think you are eating.0 -

I don't track most fruits and vegetables. I did WW for 3 years so I'm use to it and it gives me an incentive for reaching for a healthy snack instead of something unhealthy... And my WW leader always said "you aren't here (overweight) because of too many fruits and vegetables"... I do track avocado, corn, beans, peas, and potatoes.
My WW points value was actual more calories than my calorie goal on MFP (about 100 more)... I still lost weight and ate all the fruits and vegetables I wanted!
OP, do what you need to do! If you don't want to track fruits and veg... Don't! If you are still satisfied with your weight loss/health after doing it that way then keep it going! You have to figure out what works for you...0 -
Just track it. If you're eating it, you're eating it. What does it matter if you can see or can't see the calories?

Some people are. It's entirely possible to get overweight eating too many fruits and vegetables. Difficult, but definitely possible. I've seen people do it.0 -
Here's a good anecdote about why it's important to track fruit and vegetable calories on MFP:
I have a 1/2 lb a week weight loss goal (i.e. a 250 cal/day defict). I eat approx 200-250 cals of fruit and veg daily. If I didn't count them, I would be wiping out my deficit, not losing and wondering what I'm doing wrong.
Moral of the story, those calories count. That's how MFP is designed.0 -
Yesterday I ate 192 calories of fruits/veggies and today I ate 130 (leaving out the avocado and mashed potatoes.) That's a bit low compared to my norm but averages 161 calories.
161 x 365 = 58,765
58,675/3500 = 16.79
Not logging those fruits/veggies for a year could mean a close to 16.79 pound gain (if I was trying to maintain) or a missed opportunity to lose 16.79 pounds.0 -

I personally wouldn't do this, as I know I would overeat fruit in particular. But I've lost weight successfully in the past on the old WW system where just non-starchy veggies were 'free'. I can definitely see the attraction for someone who needs encouragement to eat more vegetables. Veggies do have calories though, and they still count!0 -
It's not just the calories that matter. Your micros would be off too. I also like to track my fibre, vit C etc etc which fruit and veggies are full of.0

Volume eater here. And i love fruit and veggies so that is the "cheapest way to "fill" up next to some higher dense foods

Yup I'm one of them, lol. Bananas, sheesh. Never knew how high-calorie they were until i logged after weighing one one day. Oooops.0 -
I don't track fruit and veggies..and ive been doing just fine with that, weight still comes off..less of a hassle too.0

Can't you just add another meal in your diary for all your veggies and fruit? Then you can just substract the total of these from your daily total and use the values for WW (In case you wanna use it for that)? That's what I did in my diary since it was the "easiest" solution...0

have you ever been on an internet discussion board before? 'cuz this is kinda how they work...
and people are saying how much of it they eat to illustrate that calories can add up...they aren't "free" foods. I'm in the neighborhood of 500 calories of fruits and veg today...which is similar to most days.0 -

In that case, no there isn't. But as we've said, it will mess your counting up. I had a banana for breakfast this morning that was 116 calories. Not counting the calories in them, especially when you're working with a half-pound a week deficit, can put a huge dent into things and cause you to lose less than you plan, or even gain.0 -
If I didn't count my fruit and veggies then I'd be eating more than I thought and wouldn't lose at my expected rate. There's no way around this, unless you dropped your calories by a few hundred to make up for not logging them. Pretty pointless IMO.0

The only way I could think you could track the fruits and veggies without counting calories would be to use the note section on the bottom of each days diary and list what you had for the day. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies daily. A rough estimate for today is about 400 calories and this is pretty much daily for me. I am on maintenance and I can assure you if I did not log the calories involved I would definitely gain weight. I wish you much success and stay strong.0
