One can of soda = 15 lbs. of weight

Options
It's true. One can of soda has 150 calories. Times 365, in one year, that's 54,750 calories. One pound of body weight is 3,500 calories. 54,750 divided by 3,500 is 15 lbs!

You can do that with everything that has calories.

What if I fit that one can of soda per day into my daily calorie goal and maintain a consistent deficit for that entire year? That one can of soda will still make me gain 15 lbs. of weight even though I was in an average 500 calorie deficit every day of the year?

(Hint: the correct answer is "No, it won't".)

But what if I can work soda into my daily calorie allowance to remain in a deficit?

And if I ate 150 calories of broccoli every day over my maintenance calories, the same math would apply.

Yup - that one can of carbonated sugar water is something that many people will find easy to ditch in order to meet a calorie goal for weight loss and still get enough macro and micro nutrients to be healthy.

The same can be said of everything that has calories.

In the context of overall diet, as long as you're meeting your body's energy requirements, it won't add any extra weight to you.

My daughter in law lost her first twenty pounds over a few months simply by cutting sugar soda from her diet. Easy cut.

    And what everyone else said.

That's only if you've already eaten your maintenance calories for the day, and even then, it's not a perfect equation. Soda doesn't have any inherent magical weight gaining properties.

Seems to me that the OP was just realizing what a can of soda does to a daily calorie intake. And yeah if you have been drinking it and don't "have" to have it, it is an easy way to get rid of some extra calories.

I'm wondering what OP was trying to accomplish by posting this. I mean, at 400+ posts, he's not exactly a n00b.

    I call trolling.

It's true, One bowl of Coach's Oats has 160 calories. Times 365 in one year, that's 58,400 calories. One pound of body weight is 3,500 calories. 58,400 divided by 3,500 is 16.68 Lbs.

You can probably see where we're going here...

That would mean 365 cans of soda = 15 pounds, not one can.

8oz of chicken has 248 calories. That's over 90,000 calories per year! That's almost 26lbs per year! Say no to chicken...!
