Normal Weight Loss?

I have been working on losing weight since the middle of November and have only managed to lose around 11 pounds. I go to the gym 5 days a week and also do home workouts. I make sure to do cardio and always try to get at least a bit of strength training in as well (I say a bit because am not really sure what to do when it comes to strength training). I was just curious to see if anyone has an idea of if my weight loss is normal for that period of time or should I be losing more? Just trying to figure out if I need to switch up my routine or something. (FYI: I started at 304.6 lbs and am currently at 293.2) Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!

So 11 pounds in about two months? Sounds about normal. With your stats you could be losing 2 lbs per week for sure.

Are you measuring/weighing all you food? You would be surprised how much you can be off on your calorie in count if you aren't. Also are you eating back all your exercise calories? I find the calories burned on here quite high so don't eat anymore than half back usually.

@kmash32 I don't measure or weigh my food, I could but I just don't. I usually don't eat back my exercise calories but there are times when I have. I don't really go by the calorie amounts listed on here, I input the calories I get on the machines at the gym or what I get from my activity tracker because I found those are usually more accurate. @strong_curves Thank you! :)

11lbs in 2 months is great.
  • Your rate of loss is 100% fine/normal/healthy, but what is your goal set to and how many calories are you recording in/out each day? Does your rate of loss match up with it? That's the real question.

I zig-zag my calorie goal so it changes each day to make sure that my body doesn't get used to the restricted amount.

This will all work and obviously is working for now and probably will for awhile. Just keep in mind that there will likely come a point when you need to be more precise. I don't say that to discourage you; I say it so that you won't get discouraged down the line when losses slow or stop - you'll know it's time to get more accurate.

You don't have to do that. Your body (like anyone's) will adapt to become more efficient at using calories as you lose weight, but you can't trick it with different daily calorie goals. Plus, even if you're trying to hit the exact same goal each day, even with weighing but especially without, you're already zig-zagging unintentionally.
