Hi,,
my problem is I eat lot when I get depressed
it doesn't matter what i eat as long I'm eating,,I mean I can binge in healthy food
I have no problem if i overeat fruit or veggies but not all healthy food are low in calories
for example I can't keep nuts around because they're high in calories & I'm afraid to lose control ^^
I'm vegetarian & nuts are one of my protein sources
anyway i hope you can help me with ideas how to control myself when I'm depressed
I want to stop eating my feelings
on the other hand ,,I don't eat when I feel extremely happy I mean I can get hungry but I'm too busy being happy ^^

I think I really know how you feel with this one. I suffered from depression for a very long time and ate lots because of it. For me, I kind of grew out of the depression with some help and also from making tons of lifestyle changes and doing things that make me happy. It will take time, but if you can turn to exercise instead of food, it will really benefit you. Instead of depression these days, it's mostly anxiety for me. If I'm anxious I try to turn to a really intense work out routine or about an hour of yoga to take my mind off things. The idea for me is to get my anxiety and all of my coping strategies (eating being one of them) off of my mind! By the time I'm done working out I'm feeling a lot better and happy that I chose something beneficial to get through the tough moment. Another thing you can do is try some guided relaxation exercises. You can find a bunch on youtube. By the time you're done with a 15 minute exercise you'll be feeling a lot better and more in control of your body and you'll probably be less likely to let yourself binge.0

Try exercise, I know its hard when you are depressed but it will get the endorphins going and you will feel better. Just go for a walk or jog in a nice park or in your neighborhood. Put the ipod on and listen to your favorite music while walking. I promise you will feel better when you are done. Then if you are hungry have that fruit or nuts0

Another suggestion, find the core of what's making you depressed. Unless you already know it? If you know what leads you to it, you'll have a better chance at controlling it. And I so agree with the post above, exercise instead of munch.
Hang in there!

I have anxiety/panic disorder and I have to workout to keep me feeling even. Whats funny is I have O type blood and a person with O type blood is required to workout intensely. Now my sister on the other hand has A I think and all she has to do is yoga, how fair is that. She is a mellow one I am a stressed person.0 -
Hi
I am not sure it will help you but I got hold of a book called Women food and god and it really really helped me. Its not full of preaching it just helps you figure out why you are doing this to yourself.
I also brush my teeth if I want soda or chocolate as its tastes awful after the toothpaste and I find I don't want to eat it , if I go out I take mint gum for the same reason.
If you do find that you must have something... then have it but make yourself throw half of it in the trash... not save it for next time but throw it in the bin. It hurts and is a waste of money but I found I didn't want to waste money and food more than I wanted the food.
I also drink water and water and more water as the sweet drinks make me want to eat more.

Interesting!! How did you find out about the O blood thing? That's what I have as well. Did you read it in Eat Right For Your Type?I think I really know how you feel with this one. Hey!
I barelyt started, but I have the same problem. When i feel sad/overwhelmed y drive to a drive-thru and eat... I'm not sure if this will help, but this is what i'm doing.
- I enter all the food I will eat during the day on the diary (Of couse, I might modify some things and change them at night). This kind of sets a mini-goal for the day, and it gives me an idea of how many calories, carbs, etc I'm gonna eat.
I also agree with the last post. You should try to consult what makes you feel that way.
you will do amazing! i know it takes work, but you are strong0 -

I do the same. When I feel sad I eat and eat and eat. Plus, I went through a depression last year, and I had bulimia a few years ago (one of those awful sicknesses you never get rid of completely). What I did is I tried to find another outlet for my emotions. So when I'm very sad I try to focus on photographing my emotions (I've done series of dark/depressed photography). I also carry around a small moleskine with blank pages, with me at all times. When I can't photograph away my feelings, I draw something (I'm completely terrible at drawing, but who cares), or write something like a poem or just a text or whatever.0 -
Thanks Very Much everyone
I'm glad I turned to you to get some ideas ,,I found bunch of them really would be helpful0 -
Do you live with anyone else? Reason I ask is that maybe you could package up your nuts into individual portion sizes in small ziploc bags and then ask someone else to hide them away for you, so you don't know where they are and then give you a portion at a time when you need them to eat sensibly? Does that make sense? I've done that in the past with chocolate and sweets which are my downfall. My husband looks after them. He can take it or leave it so it works well.
I know how you fell 100%. I lost over 10 stone before, got to goal and then suffered with a severe bout of depression/anxiety and Agarophobia so spent 3 months sat on my backside eating almost continuously, and even when I started to feel a bit better I carried on eating loads.
Good luck.
