Hey All,
I'm on thia beans and peas only diet type thing tbh im not quite sure if im on the right track but in my mind it seems like an ol idea I just have a few questions.
Is it safe?
Does it work?
anyone know any good recipes?
As far as amounts per serving any advice? (I've been eating like 2 cups in a serving whether is be beans, lentils id add some cayenne pepper some spinach maybe a tomato just mixing it up but I fear my per serving size is too much)
I'm trying to lose weight and be as fit as I can again but working on the diet first its not that I ate crap so much but I drank alot so alcohol for me is a "no no"

You're only eating beans and peas?
This doesn't sound safe -- you need nutrients that are found in other foods as well.
Would it work? I guess it depends on what you're trying to do.
I think it would work to make you sick of beans and peas.0 -
I can't imagine doing this diet for weeks on end.
Why not eat regular food and measure portions? Then log said portions into MFP (My Fitness Pal). That way you get to eat food you like, you get well rounded nutrition, and you learn about serving sizes.....which will be critical for MAINTENANCE.
Losing weight is just the first step. Keeping the weight off is hard work also.0 -
That sounds horrible. Why are you doing such an overly restrictive diet?0

I was figuring that legumes would be the base but I would throw In other things to make it more well rounded. I was thinking I could get tired of it but then I thought about people who work out who eat plain chicken breast and broccli for months straight and as far as nutrition goes they seem fine. Idk I could get tired of it but they are a million ways tou could do beans from a soup to chilli to a salad. I was just going to make it bean based im not against meat at all or eating normally but rice bread or crackers no thanks anything with flour I want to gracefully stray away from.0

Cause I'm a novice and it seemed like a good idea at the time clearly not so much. I just dont understand why it's horrible but. Its ok to eat plain chicken breast and broccli for months on end?0

Well OK I guess that's a little better.
I mean I love me some beans and peas (and lentils and peanuts)...but I wouldn't go out of my way to base every single thing I eat around them. There are far too many delicious foods out there to enjoy!
I'd respectfully suggest changing your thinking slightly. You mentioned weight loss and fitness as your goals.
Have you tried using MFP's tools to approximate a reasonable calorie goal for you to lose weight in a healthy manner? Once you get that target number, what you eat is merely personal preference. Though I'd suggest a nice variety of different foods - both because food is delicious, but even more importantly to ensure you're getting well rounded nutrition.0 -
Maybe I'm just confused and need a little guidance.0

I wouldn't suggest that either.0 -
Understood yeah I chartered a course I guess what I would do is instead of focusing on legumes etc ill just try to make each meal as balanced and comprehensive as I can whilst still staying below the calorie average for the days to come.0

Don't get me wrong - legumes can be a nice source of some protein, micronutrients & fiber in your diet. Like I said, I personally love them (black beans might be one of my favorite foods).
But focusing on only one foodsource is not necessary to achieve your goals, and OVER focus on one item can lead to deficiencies in other nutrients that they don't have.0 -
legumes are great...so are lentils...they are staples of my diet, but so are potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice, whole grain pastas, oats, chicken, fish, lean cuts of pork and beef, eggs, dairy, all manner of vegetables (tons of them), fruit, and healthy fats from things like avocados, olives, cooking with olive oil and coconut oil and avocado oil, etc.
Also, the people are just eating plain chicken, rice, and broccoli day in and day out (I don't personally know anyone like that) obviously don't care for variety or flavor. Variety and flavor don't make you fat.0 -
Thanks for the advice though it was just mega surprising things that I didnt consider before I now have to. For instance I was out yesterday with some friends and everyone is hungry they went for fast food so I did a quick check to see how much calories it would be if I had a burger it was like 700 I think and it had me like damn. Im looking to lose weight so I guess I need to eat at a calorie deficit and couple that with working out then be consistent and patient. Correct?

Entirely correct. A calorie deficit created through a well balanced diet and some exercise will get you there. It will also help you learn all the right habits for staying there when you get there.0 -
