I feel like that woman in the commercial I saw for one of the weight loss shows...the one who says I wake up on a diet, and end up in failure. This has been me for at least the last month. I cannot seem to pull myself back onto this wagon for good. I've been at it for 3 years now and have lost about 50 lbs so I'm very happy with that progress but I'm stuck now. I think I've gotten bored with any workout I do at home and can only workout outside the house 2-3 nights a week. I can't blame it all on that though because sometimes even on days I do workout, I will still go over my calories. I have to find it in me to do this and finish out what I started. I'm still in the overweight range and have 20-30lbs left to get down to normal range. How have you all gotten yourselves back on track??

Motivation from sites like this one and Beachbody....we all go through these ups and downs. Its just when you are on this down, you knock the dust off and get right back up and continue your journey. You have lost so much weight. Look where you came from and where you are now...that itself is a HUGE accomplishment.

I do same thing, I can't control my eating! You just need encouragement & a goal. Maybe even a little compitition. We had biggest loser game at work, and I knew I had to be good because I was going to be weighed in.

This is just a part of it! please read the link above

Generally someone with a BMI over 32 can do a 1000 calorie a day (2 lbs a week) deficit
With a BMI of 30 to 32 a deficit of 750 calories is generally correct (about 1.5 lbs a week)
With a BMI of 28 to 30 a deficit of 500 calories is about right (about 1 lb a week)
With a BMI of 26 to 28 a deficit of about 300 calories is perfect (about 1/2 lb a week)
and below 26... well this is where we get fuzzy. See now you're no longer talking about being overweight, so while it's still ok to have a small deficit, you really should shift your focus more towards muscle tone, and reducing fat. This means is EXTRA important to eat your exercise calories as your body needs to KNOW it's ok to burn fat stores, and the only way it will know is if you keep giving it the calories it needs to not enter the famine response (starvation mode)

I've been struggling a bit lately too and just had a thought this morning that it's time to smarten the hell up and get back on track.

Part of my problem is also being motivated for exercise but it definitely is helping me to mix it up. Going to the gym obviously makes this easier since there are more options than one usualy has at home... Anyway, this week I've been making a commitment to do at least 30 minutes of cardio, whether that's all one one machines or 10 minutes each on 3 machines, that way I won't get too bored.

Maybe you just need more options? Time to get more DVDs or try something new with your outdoor exercises?

As far as the eating goes, I'm trying to just plan my meals more. If I don't plan, I find it's way too easy to say - I'm too tired to think about it, let's just get take-out. You can be somewhat healthy with take-out but there are a lot of temptations so I find it's easier to just avoid that all together.

FIrst, I want to congratulate you on the fantastic weight loss, and you are keeping it off. I have been see-sawing for years and finally got the to the point of saying I am done with being overweight. Now, for motivation. I know how hard it is to hit a platuea, i hit them very quickly, and it is very disheartening. What is helping me stay motivated is that I am not doing random workout DVD's from my extensive library, but I am following a workout program from Beachbody. There is a calander of what to on each on, and it is designed to combat plateaus. This is helping me to stay focused. You do not want to lose heart and start going off your plan, it is too easy to gain the weight back, please don't do what i did, lost 45lbs, then slowly put it back on over 2 years. It just makes it harder to get back in the swing.
  • Thank you all for the kind words. I know I have come a very long way and I def don't wanna go back to where I was! As far as my workouts...I have pretty much tried it all. JM 30 day shred and Ripped in 30, p90x, video games, and they are all great but get old after awhile too. I've never committed to the whole 30 days of either JM workout, I got about as far as a month and a half into p90x and gave up (was finding it hard to commit to the amount of working out you had to do), have actually finished out a 9 week program on EA Sports Active 2 but got really sick of it after that long. I take a class every week 2-3 times a week that's all routines made to songs. I think there are 7 or 8 cardio routines, then the rest are toning. It's wonderful and if I could do it everyday, I would. I love that sort of thing...the dancy stuff. And really have taken a liking to zumba but haven't made the investment in the dvd's just yet and can't find an affordable, close to home class to take.

As for the food, I just make poor choices every.single.day lately. I know I shouldn't keep bad stuff in the house, and sometimes it's not even terrible stuff I'm overeating on, but I do it anyway. I sit there thinking why am I doing this as I'm doing it but doesn't stop me. Then when I go to get on the scale and see what I did to myself, I get upset about it. I have those I need to smarten the hell up moments every morning! lol

I have adjusted my calories to the 1lb a week so I had more leeway but honestly can't tell if it's making any difference because I haven't been "on plan" really since I did it. I have to fix this and get back on track!! And I know I can do it with the support of all of you! Thank yoU!
