I don't want to rain on your parade, but is merely "getting through" every weekend to come really the best way to manage your weight? Is eating low carb something you want to do for the remainder of your days?0
-
I too do not want to rain on the parade, this is not fat loss. You will loose a large amount of water weight during the first couple of weeks "low carbing"..
If you keep up the low carbing, you will transition into loosing weight that is fat, but you have stay the course. As soon as you go back to carbing up, the water comes right back.0 -

Exactly. Why do you do this if it's so hard? Do you have medical issues that require a low carb diet?0 -
I don't think the OP meant getting through the weekend was tough because of low carb, I think she meant that it's always been a struggle regardless of how she has been eating. Which is not uncommon, because your routine is generally different on the weekends.
OP, if you find low carb is how you like to eat, then I'm glad you found something that works for you. The weekends will eventually get easier. I find that creating some kind of schedule and keeping myself busy helps me to avoid grazing or mindless eating that can accompany boredom. I also try to plan out my meals to make room for things if I know I'm going to be out somewhere with the family and eating outside my norms.0 -

I personally re-read this and not sure there is a question here in the post. I think it was just letting the community know that 40 years of dieting is not working and maybe because weekends are sabotaging goals?
Low carbing is a short term fix for a long term issue and hate that 8 pounds lost in two weeks pronounces success when it is not fat loss.

Does it matter? After almost 40 years of dieting, it's sobering that OP hasn't found a sustainable and enjoyable way to lose weight, and is still just "getting through" weekends.

@GETTHROUGHIT you are off to a good start on your new WOE (Way Of Eating). I was in the same place as you are 15 months ago. 15 months later my health markers and pain levels are better than they were 20 years ago.
After two weeks after I stopped eating grains and most all sugars my cravings just started to fade away and after a month weekends were just as easy as weekdays. I stay full all of the time now eating food I enjoy and still losing weight slowly.
Best of success with your new WOE. 15 months in I am still learning better ways to eat.

Congratulations on two good weeks! I'm not big on the low-carb diet myself, but if its something you want to try as a method of sticking to particular calorie intake level, then I hope you stay strong and have a great weekend! Remember, though, that if you do decide to have a few extra carbs (or calories) over the weekend, that doesn't mean that you have to give up on your goals. Just keep moving on through it.0

Yeah, congrats. I went on low/no carb for about 6 months and lost 60 lbs. It was remarkable. I have done that diet twice. Both times with good initial results. The problem, for me at least, is that I plateau after awhile, and cannot lose any more weight, then get frustrated. The last time I did the no carb diet I plateaued after losing 60 lbs, and tried for another 3 months to lose weight, all in vain. For me, I lost the craving for sugars, which was good, but my cholesterol skyrocketed. Now I am keeping everything balanced, but eating smaller portions. I am exchanging chips for cucumbers and stuff like that. More power to anyone who can lose weight on any program!

Lots of people have trouble losing weight even after trying various methods to do so, and having trouble on the weekends isn't exclusive to any one way of eating. Even people who count calories can have trouble on the weekends, and we certainly have plenty of users who have used MFP in the past and are returning because they put the weight back on. I think it's good that the OP is feeling more confident about something that has been an obstacle in the past.0 -
You are around 60? Eat for your heart. Low carb sometimes lacks the fiber and calcium you need. Next time you visit your doctor, tell him about your diet. It might be high in saturated fat.0

Perhaps this is a good approach for the OP.
That said, why must she eat low carb for "the rest of her days"? Because....CICO, right?0 -

Congrats on finding a WOE that works for you! I suggest that you re-post your original post on the main low-carber forum group ere in MFP. It is where all the Ketogenic and LCHF people hang out. Here is a link to that group. They will warmly welcome you and offer you the support you are seeking!

It sounds like you've found something that's working for you!
Weekends are hard for me too! When everyone's home (my hubs and kids), we're more likely to order out or get donuts in the morning or whatever, and it's so easy to say, "Just one!" (and when you're talking about a donut, that's actually quite a lot of fat and calories and whatever).
Anyway, keep up the good work! I'm rooting for you!0 -

Yes low carb works. A friend who is a physician is convinced that low carb is the way to diet successfully and never feel hungry. Cardiologists are also now concluding that fat and cholesterol are not the cause of heart problems, that now they have concluded that the culprit to heart issues and plaque buildup is sugar. With the low carb plan he advises to include low glycemic load fruits such as oranges, and berries. In medical school he was taught that fat was bad news and now he is convinced they were wrong. Whenever I have gone low carb the pounds fall off. Coming from a medical family who had it drilled into our heads the danger of fat, it is hard to wrap our heads around that fat isn't the cause of heart and plaque problems. Sugar is the cause of plaque buildup. Not fat.0

Hey OP it gets easier ...you commit and keep committing every day, you find ways to make it easier and more palatable over time and it becomes your lifestyle ...I yo-yo dieted for 30+ years too ...it is possible to make a permanent change ??you've just got to be stubborn0
