Ok so been using mfp for over two weeks and I'm extremely constipated. When I ate junk, no problem, but now I'm like where is everything going? I'm eating low carb and my go to fruits/veggies have been apples, bananas, peppers, broccoli, green beans. I drink tons of water and exercise... And I Always meet my fiber goals. So do I need to load up on oatmeal and brown rice?

I have found this myself, and I'm guessing it's all just change in dietary. Your body needs to get used to it.
I could be wrong but your bowels will be adjusting.
Just keep doing what your doing and you'll soon be okay.
If it does get worse you could always try something to loosen the bowels.

Are you also generally eating less than before?
    Less in = less out

You probably increased your fiber intake too quickly. Do you track it? Start at about 15-20g/day and increase by 5g per day until you get to 35-45g. Drink some water.
If you have some fresh ginger root, grate about a TBS, and squeeze the juice from the pulp into a cup, add some water and drink it (I also add the juice of a lemon and stevia). The ginger will gently stimulate a BM.
    You'll poop eventually, don't stress!
If you know how to use peppermint oil, that works too!

Increasing your magnesium (often low on a low carb diet) and coconut oil may help you get things moving.

Are you eating enough fats? You need fats to move things along. Drink plenty of water, especially if you've increased your fiber.
  • My problem is the exact opposite

It is really common for digestion to be upset in the beginning of a new diet. It generally regulates itself in a few weeks but in the mean time there are somethings that might help. More fiber and water, exercise, probiotic (I highly recommend).

Drink plenty of water; keep the veggies up, and yes on the probiotics. Everything with work itself out!

Bananas can cause constipation. Rice may also bind you up. Some multivitamins are famous for that, too. Ease off the bananas and vitamins. Drink more water; orange-flavored Metamucil (or generic) in the Low Calorie orange Gatorade once or twice a day can be helpful. Sleep is also very important, so if you're not getting enough, that could be a contributor.

When you do go is it hard? If so start colace 100mg colace just one daily really does the trick for me. It's not a laxative it's a stool softener. Google it if you want more info.

Magnesium and probiotics. I take 2 magnesium capsules and probiotic every night before bed which keeps me regular. Without them I would seriously struggle :disappointed:

The meds I am on cause constipation so it is a constant battle. I do take stool softeners, about 4 a day, but sometimes I also need to take Miralax. Constipation put me in the hospital for 5 days last summer so it doesn't necessarily work itself out. You may need to talk to your doctor if you don't become regular.

Some exercise would help, even just walking. Moving can get things moving!

I had the same problem when I first cut calories, possibly because most of the excess calories were from fat. You could try increasing fat. Anyway, it all worked itself out, so to speak.

Hi all thanks. I am also meeting my fat numbers which mostly come from nut butters, cheese, oil. It's just frustrating because I feel like I'm eating the right foods, with lots of water, exercise.

If you are having difficulty with constipation try using Metamucil or fiber one. That will help things move along more smoothly and continue to drink lots of water. Hope this helps. good luck to you.
