I know it's crazy! Prices in Canada are through the roof for veggies and fruits this week!! Very unfortunate!0

I would probably just stick to frozen for a while. I haven't noticed a change in those prices.0

Speaking of cauliflower...I bought some really pretty heads of cauliflower Saturday...orange, purple and green. I paid about $3 a head but they were on the small side. I couldn't resist all those colors.0

Yeah, I had to put some asparagus back because I was so appalled with the price0

$8.00+ a head up here in Toronto, frozen veggies is the way to go this winter!0
-

I paid $3 for a ginormous head yesterday. (It might have been only $2 - I don't remember for sure which it was.)0

I bypassed on the asparagus too...it was 5.99 a lb.0 -
Oh wow, plain asparagus is 4.98. Purple is a dollar less.0

You guys must live up in the tundra or something. A huge head of white cauliflower costs $2.99 where I live. Festival cauliflower costs $3.99.0

Another Canadian here!0 -
I live pretty much in Vancouver, BC so yea far from rural0

When fresh veggies are super expensive - head to the freezer aisle. Generally frozen veggies are packaged in season and thus are less expensive and they still have the nutritional value.0
-
Expensive here too. And I cannot stand many frozen veggies, cauliflower included.0

Time to grow your own!0

I bought a beautiful head of cauliflower last week for 5 dollars and told the cashier to handle it carefully, it was made of gold...this is a rough winter to be a vegetarian!!0

Except our growing season is about 16 weeks in a good year. I'm paying the crazy prices when I'm able too. Fresh from California tastes a lot better than frozen from Safeway.0 -
I've noticed it lately too. I am not paying $10 for strawberries, that's nuts!
Stupid Canadian dollar...grumble. At least gas has come down a bit.0 -
Holy Moly, I'm in the UK and I bought a Cauliflower for 39p a few days ago0

I got broccoli for about 45p yesterday.
Strawberries are always very expensive here during the winter, though - they're way out of season. They get cheaper again in June/July.0 -

The only time that I buy frozen is if it goes in soup or a casserole. I don't like the texture of frozen vegetables.
To continue buying fresh at these prices I have just cut back in other places. It is worth the sacrifice to me.0 -
brutal here, north Canada, we have not even been buying celery. broccoli is dirt cheap tho.0

Broc is 1.98 a head at Food Basics this week!0 -
I haven't bought fresh veggies in a while because of this.. Even broccoli is $3 a pound. Not worth it. So I buy frozen, but I really want to roast veggies and it's just not happening.
I saw some cauliflower at $3 last week but they were tiny so I didn't even bother.0 -

Our family grows some vegetables in the spring/summer. However, it's not possible for a lot of people who live in condos or apartments. Especially not possible for most of us in the northern hemisphere in the dead of winter .0 -
That's nothing. I broke a filling on a carrot. Dental bill will be about £50.0
-
BTW surely, it's to be expected. Buy local and in season = cheaper and lower environmental impact, right?0
