Mark Bittman had a cookbook called "food matters", and it treats meat more as a side dish and has lots of veggie friendly recipes too. It's based on sustainability and carbon foot print, but that's only in the forward.

still sounds like an omnivore to me.

But if it's vegetable-focussed foods you're after, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's 'Veg Everyday' is good, as are the Ottolenghi books 'Plenty' and 'Plenty More'

Part time Vegetarian? So, not a vegetarian then. Just someone who eats a range of foods.

Hey I'm an anemic vegan (well, not so anemic now because I'm doing well with my iron) so I understand the iron thing -- I'm sure you know what's best for your body but I just wanted to let you know that getting enough iron without meat is totally possible! Here's some ideas: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.php

As for what to eat, I found turning Mexican food vegetarian is SUPER easy. You can easily make vegetarian burritos/taco salads/tacos with whatever you have in your kitchen. It's basically what I eat on a daily basis.

    Good luck!

Look up vegetarian recipes when you don't feel like eating meat .... Look up recipes with meat when you feel like eating meat?

    Why label what you do?

Not sure lol. I saw it as an idea 5 years ago and people are food pushers...and it's a good way to explain it? But your right!

People like to be part of a larger group...feel as if they belong...communicate with like minded people...have a way of identifying their preferences. I don't think it is hard to understand at all.

Besides...some people think that having a label makes them special or calling yourself something sets you apart.

    I eat a specific way...I don't label it however...because quite frankly...I don't want to belong to that group...but sigh...I have no choice.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why can't you look up recipes like anyone else? If you feel like fish tonight, look up a fish recipe. If you feel like pasta, look up pasta. Etc etc.

We eat LO-Vegetarian 4-5 meals a week. Fish at least once.

Very easy to do and countless cuisines. My favourites to cook are Sichuan (Fushia Dunlop's books are incredible), Thai, Indian/Goan...next I want to venture into Ethiopian and north African. For fish and vegetarian, Mediterranean is also a go to staple.

Always make a huge pot of soup for the week. Our favourites are Borscht, Thai Sweet Potato, Feta-Quinoa Chowder.

I'm not vegetarian but I agree mexican food is one of the easiest to change to fit your needs. It's easy to make vegan or just to cut a lot of calories. It doesn't have to be spicy either although for me I love spicy.

Here's a vegetarian Ethiopian recipe for you. (I assume you like spicy.) http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/spicy-ethiopian-red-lentil-stew

I got the Berbere spice from Frontier, which is a coop, so perhaps not the best option unless you are a member, in which case, it's the best place for spices.

Do you have a link to the Thai Sweet Potato recipe?

Speaking of Africa and sweet potatoes, I've made something similar to http://allrecipes.com/recipe/55207/african-sweet-potato-and-peanut-soup/ My recipe included a jalapeño. I really like sweet potatoes, PB, and hot pepper!

For those of you low in iron, this might help: http://www.luckyironfish.com/

Won't give you a ton of iron supplementation, but it may help.

Not sure if you can see this link. This is the base soup that I make...really simple: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/recipe/edit_v2/94297684626813

I haven't put in the amount of water in the receipe...but normally it is to cover. Once the pressure cooker is done, I use my immersion blender. Then if too thick I add more water. If too thin, I add the powdered mashed potatoes to thicken. Just depends on the consistency you are looking for..

Depending on my mood, I may also add old carrots, potatoes and if I want some additional protein I sometimes add some red lentils.

If I have them in the house I will often add some combination ginger and lemongrass...these are bruised and then removed at the end of the cooking....just used to impart flavour.

Finally, I top with cilantro and chopped peanuts...maybe some sprouts.

Ideas for what, though? Just something different than what you're bored with? That doesn't fall into any special eating/dietary plan.

    The label is confusing me.

Yeah menu ideas. Not sure why some are bothered/confused by the label? It's just a description of how I eat. Yes. I can "google"it, but i thought this was a great way to see what others eat.....not just Google.

I think Indian cuisine is great for vegetarian foods. Saag paneer. Chana saag. Vada pav. Kale pakoras. Dal. My good friend labels herself "flexatarian" as well. She eats about 3 oz of meat a week.

    BWAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!

    Love it.

Also don't get "flexatarian" - does this mean that people are normally divided into two categories - meat eaters and vegetarians and if you're a meat eater you don't eat veggies and vice versa?

If you eat both meat AND vegges then you're flexatarian?

Well then - I am a "flexatarian" and have been all my life.

NOw pass me the label maker pls.
