I have been a crossfitter and lifter for 5 years. I'm consistent between 3-5 days per week. I have recently lost around 20 pounds. Since that I have wanted to begin recomp and have upped my programming a bit and have included hiit 3 X per week and lifting 4x per week.

However my weight is up. My measurements are the same (maybe 1/4-1/2 inch on my waist, but it doesn't stay increased). However my weight is up 3.5 pounds. It's been there a couple weeks and I keep thinking it will level out. I'm scared I've gained fat and will reverse all my hard work.

I am sore and my hands and feet are swollen. I can't get my ring off my finger and usually it slides around. Is this from the increased effort? It's been a few weeks so if it is when will it level out? anything I can do, especially for the swelling which is uncomfortable.

The weight might just be the natural ups and downs of weight changes not being linear or exacting. But since you mentioned being swollen and sore, probably just a by product of lifting heavier and water/glycogen levels in the muscle. I seem to have a threshold of sorts when it comes to differing types of working out. If I do hard cardio, lighter strength, etc, I stay looking slimmer and lighter. When I lift heavier I "fluff up" quick in certain areas, yet in other areas it has no real impact that I can see or feel.

Often during weight loss attempts, weight will stall or increase when common logic says weight shouldn't increase. Then, for the same reasons, weight often "whooses" off quickly, even when a person isn't doing anything that should logically contribute to sudden greater weight loss.

I've had it happen both ways, and quit trying to figure out all the complexities of what might cause it. I enjoy trying to figure it out, but only for the sake of understanding how unpredictable it is and possibly why. I already accept that I'll never figure out the specifics of the when or exacts.
