Any weight lifters with back injury?

I hurt my low back while deadlifting. It is been 4 weeks and I'm still not 100% yet. I'm just walking and doing "some" upper body stuff. I can't even do ab work right now! So frustrating!! I feel like I'm losing muscle in my legs/butt. Anyways, what was your experience when you got back? How long did it take you to get back to where you where ?

Lower back injuries take a very long time to heal. Go see your orthopedist first to make sure it's just muscular, but it can be months. A trap bar may be a worthwhile investment to substitute for, and supplement in the future, deads.0

Yes I saw a orthopedist and a chiropractor. I got a MRI done and thankfully my back is fine! I just sprained it very bad and tore some ligaments.0

I have an issue with my psoas....I found out recently. I initially hurt it a couple of months ago, tried to keep training the things I could manage, went back to everything and put my back out again a couple of times over. Now I have to stick to body weight squats with a band, front squats and anything but back squats, deads and leg press. Also have to strengthen my right glute and stretch more...
Who knows when I'll get back to where I was, so frustrating!0 -

meh, torn ligaments are nothing. It's not a real injury until you herniate a disk. Besides, ortho needs a new Porsche0 -

dont deadlift until you are 100% recovered...

I hear you! I'm beyond frustrated! Whenever I'm ready to go back I'm planning on doing it very slowly and i even think I'm going to skip deadlifts all together.0 -

Better to go to chiro school and start a supplement line. Medical school takes too long and then there's those pesky rules

For all the **** we're giving you, seriously rest and then perhaps try a trap bar and/or get some real coaching on deads. Back injuries really aren't a joke.

Right! But I didn't say I'm ready to deadlift again! In fact, I'm not even planning on trying deadlifts for a long long time. No need to be rude! I was just asking for experiences on going back.0 -
Messed up the ligaments on the RHS of my SI in an accident at work - took a year to get back to the same level physically again.
It all depends on how serious the injury is, how sensible you are, how much blood flow to the area there is, how much blood flow you promote to the area, how intelligent you are about fixing the asymmetries/weaknesses that lead to the injury (if it's not from something unavoidable like an accident), etc. If you can't answer any of those questions, you need to be under the guidance of a professional who can.
Too many ifs and buts, but getting as much gentle movement in as soon as possible is the fastest way to get things healing. Count on slow healing with ligaments in general and a slow return to your prior intensity/activity level...

Depending on how much time you have to take off, you're going to be weak as hell. It comes back fairly quickly though.0 -
I've had a bad back for years...since I was 13. So 1st of all, warm up. Seriously. Light stretching, low impact to get the blood flowing. Next, mirrors -pay attention to alignment/form in EVERYTHING. A trainer session or PT will help with this. Form is key. Use your core & accessory muscles.
Heating pads are your friend, by the way ☺
Lastly, come to terms that there are going to be limitations. Go lower weight on everything engaging your low back until you get better. And no, you may never be 100% that's just how backs are.

I hurt my back moving boxes last summer. I couldn't do much of anything, heavy lifting -wise, for a few weeks. I could lie on the bench right for bench press and it was too hard to brace my correct for ohp. After a couple of weeks I could do those with much lighter weight but it took several more weeks to go back to deadlifting and squatting and that was with much lighter weight too. It took a few months for me to work back up to where I was before hurting my back.
Did you take any complete time off, no lifting at all?0 -
